@juno0522: My first fur baby was my dog Tootsie. She was the most awesome little Shihtzu. I had here for 7 awesome years. I always wanted a dog and when I was 13 someone at my dads work was giving her away. At the time she was already 7 years old. She was fully trained and my best friend for 7 wonderful years. When she passed we burried her at my cottage. She is under my favourite tree even has her own rock garden and a nice bench

I’m sorry. My parents had to put down our boxer last year after 14 years. It really is sad because the do become a part of the family unit.

@juno0522: hugs

I have not lost my childhood pet yet…but I know the time is close.  He’s 15 now, and I don’t know how it is going to be when he passes away. I feel for your loss.

I’m so sorry it is so upsetting to lose a pet.  My childhood dog that my parents had before I was even born died when I was in middle school and our vet sent us a card with this poem.  It still makes me cry every time I read it. Our “new” dog is almost 10 and I can see her age catching up to her, I will be devastated when she moves on.

Juno… I just wanted to tell you that my grandmother loved chihuahua’s so much.  She “rescued” her first one back in the 1970’s.  When it died, she was so brokenhearted that she bought another one that looked just like it!  (black and tan, just like yours.)  Then, when that one died in the mid 90’s, she bought ANOTHER one just like her…  she loved these dogs so much, I think she loved them more than me!  And I’m her only grandchild!  Sadly, her last dog  outlived my grandmother (she died in 2007, and her dog, also named “Nina” still lives on with my aunt.)

I just thought it was ironic that your dog had the same name (different spelling) as my grammie’s dog.  She named her that because I told her that “nina” was spanish for “girl” and she wanted to give the dog a hispanic name because of chihuahua’s relation to Mexico.

I’m uploading a picture of my dog, Lucky, who we lost in 2003.  She was 17 years old.

Stay strong!

My first dog was a chow/lab mix, and I was devestated when he passed away. We got him when I was 9, he died when I was 21. I could barely remember life without this dog. He lived a long time, especially for a bigger breed, and I’m glad we got to have him, but four years later, I still tear up a bit thinking about him, even though other furbabies have joined the family now. I’m so sorry for your loss. ๐Ÿ™

Here he is! I don’t have any pictures from when he was young pup- so this is him as a grumpy old man. ๐Ÿ™‚
