We are moving from our current apartment (that pays for our cable) and we currently pay $50 for internet. We are moving to a new place with Verizon FiOS and its $75 for 15mbps of internet and $5 more for cable and phone. How is it so expensive?! Part of me wants to not pay for any of it and save up for Paris.
Is this what everybody else pays?!

@sheepandbear: We don’t have cable; but for 12mps of internet (the highest available for our area) via Windstream we pay exactly $70.71 each month.
When we signed up we could’ve added basic cable and had a bill of $100+. It would’ve been even higher to have added landline phones as well. :/

@sheepandbear: I’ll trade ya! I pay 170/mo for Internet, cable and landline! outrageous! Can’t wait to cancel all of the above after this wedding. moving in with FI

That doesn’t seem too far off. We pay $90 a month for cable and internet… It’s medium-speed internet and we have very basic cable. (We don’t have channels like ABCFamily, TNT, TBS, etc.)
We’ve considered dropping our cable and just keeping internet, as it would save us $40/month… decisions, decisions. That extra money in the pocket sure would be nice!

I got rid of cable. I think I pay $40 or so for internet.

We pay $80 for cable and internet (comcast)

I second @Birdi! We pay $89 a month for fios cable, phone and wifi but that’s only because they made me a special deal when they knocked all the power to our house out for a few days installing it! We would normally pay $130 a month I think and it will probably go up if we stay with them when our 2 year deal is up 🙁 I would be glad to have all of that at $80 with no extraordinary deal!

120$ for cable, internet and home phone.
And that’s after I had a ton of discounts added, it’s a 180$ package.
Our internet is 80mbps download, 30 up.

@kes18: Nice! We recently got rid of our cable too and our home phone line (all we received on there were calls from telemarketers). I think for medium cable, high speed internet and basic home phone we were paying $135….but we’re in Canada, so we always have higher prices. We now have just our cell phones, internet and netflix. It’s working out great!

@LilliePad: thats crazy!! I guess maybe its becasue I dont watch cable…

Ours is $160 for cable and internet but that is because we LOVE movies and we have the movie package, NFL package and some other sports related package that I am unsure of. If we cut out all of those “extras” our bill would be less than $70/month

@TealMarie: Yes…I actually didn’t have cable for a few years and we didn’t mind it that much. I got it last year and then I thought it was a waste of money. The only shows I watched seemed like a waste of time (tlc shows, bravo, etc) or I just watched things I’d already seen (seriously reruns of friends, sex and the city, movies I owned). I figured I’d just save myself the money and not waste my time.
We just log into my parents netflix and hbogo.com accounts to watch things! Most of what I really like to watch is on HBO or Showtime anyway. I’m not into any of regular ABC/NBC shows. We can also watch most college basketball games through espn3.com. Sometimes ours will be on local only or CBS and we’ve always just gone across the street to the bar for those.

We pay about $120 for cable with hi-def and sports packages and whatever the step above basic internet is. If not for sports, which are a must in this household, we would probably get rid of cable and watch internet-based tv.
