There have been a few posts about the safety of Mexico lately. I’d look at those, and I’ll bump this for you anyway.

It is really safe. Is a tourist destination so everything’s set for tourist to enjoy in the most comfortable way possible, you won’t have any trouble finding english speakers and truth be told, for americans and canadians (given the currency) things are very cheap, AND the weather is wonderful.

@redheadem: I must say I’m a but offended and hurt about the things some people have been saying lately. I stay away from the drama and don’t reply out of respect for people’s opinions but I can’t help to read some of these posts and feel disgusted at some people’s ignorance about things.

I’ve been to Cabo 3 times and loove it there! Last time was 3 years ago so I’m not sure how much has changed but I felt like it was waay safer than Cancun which is a huuge toursity place. They consider Cabo “Baja California” so for that reason I feel like it’s safer haha. Last time I went I stated at Villa del Arco which was only about 7 minutes away from downtown- we took cabs out every night and it was extremely safe. On one of my trips there me and my friend found ourselves wandering the deserted streets at night and I still felt safe (or maybe was too drunk to care?). Either way, don’t worry it’s beautiful there and you will have such a fun time! Don’t forget to visit the arc!

I went last Feb and that’s actually where my Fiance proposed on Lover’s Beach. Cabo is amazing and not once did I feel unsafe. Highly recommend and I’m going back in Feb 2013.

@Snow2bunny: My fiance proposed to me on Lovers Beach too! How funny.

Cabo is amazing. And really, it is safe as long as you have common sense as a tourist and don’t run off alone. The warnings from the State Dept. are for the border towns. Tourist-heavy cities are fine, and I never once felt unsafe, and this was just last March.

We got back from Cabo last week and it was amazing!  It was the prefect, relaxing trip we needed.  We stayed at the Sirena del Mar, just outside of Cabo San Lucas.  The resort is newish (our building was brand new!), all the rooms face out over the water with a balcony (some even had a hammock).  They also had a small private beach for swimming and snorking, with none of the usual vendors that troll the more populated beaches in town.  We spent time in town, it was fun, but we definitely liked the peacefulness of our resort.

I would highly recommend having dinner at Los Tres Gallos, it was very good!  Villa Serena was also good.  We also did a kayak and snorkling tour out to the arch and Lovers beach.  It was a lot of fun, although the snorkling was just ok since the water was pretty murky and busy (lots of tour boats) where they had us snorkle.

We also rented a car and spent a day in San Jose del Cabo, which was much quieter than Cabo San Lucas.  We felt very safe that entire time and never had any issues.  Overall people were very nice, but everyone seemed to want to sell you a time share.  Beware of the airport, you have to exit customs through a gauntlet of timeshare reps, there is a whole room dedicted to timeshare sales.  They are pretty aggressive and some even posing as car rental associates.  Just walk through to the outside and don’t talk to anyone, you should be fine.

Hope this helps!  Have fun on your trip!
