    @skybe:  Go with bakery # 2. Fill the gap with flowers or candy or something.

    @skybe:  I really think the cake will be too much for you to try to do on your wedding day. Does your vendor require your cake to come from a licensed bakery?

    I think you should go with the second bakery and explain the situation the seller at etsy to see if you can exchange the plates for smaller ones. Or I think you could do as a previous poster suggested and put a flower or some sort of decoration around the cake to fill in the gap.

    Could you go with bakery#2 and have them make a fake layer for the bottom (if you brought them the correct size styrofom or whatever they’d need) so that there wouldn’t be the big gap on the cake stand?

    @little_d:  I agree! They shouldn’t charge you much for a dummy layer!

    I definitely would not try to bake my own wedding cake. Not so much for the stress that I would be in but because of the difficulty of actually getting the cake from your house to the reception venue. An aunt of mine baked her own wedding cake and one of the layers got smashed in transit!! :O Thank God my grandmother went to the rescue to frost the mashed part at the reception site!

    @lanalnoco:  I totally agree.

    I wanted to make our wedding cake (I’m pretty good at cake decorating), but with all the other things going on, it would just be another extra stress and if it weren’t perfect, then I would probably beat myself up about it.

    If you’re happy with the price of Bakery #2, then go for it! Add some decoration around the edge of the cake stand and it’ll look amazing!
