SOOO…we are less than three weeks out from our wedding…
That being said the cake still isn’t fully figured out. It should be, but it’s totally not.
So here’s how the whole cake thing went down..
I went to Bakery #1 (a grocery store bakery for reference, trying to pinch pennies where we can) in like October and ordered a two tier cake for us to cut (8″ and 12″) and two sheet cakes for everyone else to eat. I couldn’t decide on a design so I told the lady I would be back to let her know. When I went back in January with a design, the decorator wasn’t there so I left the design with the bakery manager. The decorator calls and said there’s no way that she can do the cake design because the buttercream would fall off the side of the cake…this is the picture of the design I want for reference…basically take out the middle layer and you got it.
So anyway…I didn’t believe her for two seconds and I went online and figured out what kind of tip was needed to make the rosettes. I started to hem and haw over whether or not I should just make the cake. I’ve done a lot of different cakes before but never considered making my wedding cake. Anyway, I thought about it and got excited about it and ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE I told said that I was making a huge mistake. And that I wasn’t going to want to do anything a day before my wedding…etc. So I started trying to figure out who else to go through for the cake.
Then my work had a surprise shower for me (so sweet) and they had a delicious cake from Bakery #2 (another grocery store) about 45 minutes away. It was seriously the best cake I think I’ve ever had. So I traveled up to Bakery #2 last Saturday and found out they can only do 5″ and 8″ tiers. But they could do the design for me. I’ve decided to get the sheet cakes done there no matter what.
The problem is I custom ordered a gorgeous 15″ cake stand for the 12″ cake from a seller on Etsy so there is going to be a HUGE gap between the edge of the cake stand and where the cake stops if the bottom tier of the cake is only 8″. And I think it would look super funny in pictures.
So now I’m back to wondering if I should bake the little two tier cake and decorate it, and have Bakery #2 do the sheet cakes. I would obviously do a trial I think I would have a ton of fun doing it (contrary to what everyone thinks)…and good things happen after I bake cakes. After I baked our niece’s 2nd birthday cake I got proposed to the next day…just sayin’ 😉
