It really depends on where you live and they will more than likely charge you $ per slice. The average (maybe) here is about $4.25 per slice and I’m in Texas.

@sammopup:  I’d say to be safe budget $2-$4 per peron/slice. I’m having my cake made by an older friend who does it out of her home, and she typically charges $2.50 per slice.. I’d add onto that if you’re getting it at a bakery.

side note: weddings cakes are ridiculously expensive! We’re getting a 4 tier cake (with 3 side cakes to just be cut up in the back, not on display,) delivery & set up for $165, so we got an awesome deal!

It will all depend on where you live and what kind of cake you want. Buttercream cakes will probably run $3-4 a slice while fondant will run $5+ per slice. I live near a bakery that is feautured on TV, thus they jack their prices way up. They do superb work, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to fork over close to $1000 for a cake. I did LOTS of ressearch and found a local baker who does the same quality work for so much less. If you’re on a budget, my advice would be to do your research. It’s amazing what great deals you can find if you search hard enough.

Mine came out to just over $3 all in (including tax, delivery, cake stand rental, etc). I got quotes anywhere between $2.50 and $6+/slice. Fondant is more expensive.
