Well, I think the cost will depend on where you are in the country or world.  We had 100 guests and we did a two tier wedding cake (the top tier was for us freeze) along with a grooms cake, and a small german chocolate, lemon and carrot cake as well as cookies and candy ( we had a dessert bar) along with petitefors that came along with our buffet.  But the cost for our dessert bar total was $500 and everyting was very delish.. I am in St. Louis.

Also are cake did not have fondant, our baker doesnt use it because it is not edible, but they prided themselves on spreading the frosting in such a way that it looked like fondant and it did.

SnowWhite25:  I’m in CT getting married next Sept and I’m getting a 3 tier cake with strawberry interior, buttercream frosting, and a few pink frosting flowers around the edges for $330.00 including delivery and set up. Feeds about 120 people.

It could be too, if you can only pick to cake companies, they could be jacking their prices up as they are working with a venue and such. Just a thought. Skip the fondant though, 10% eat it, the rest eat around it.

Professional baker (in her home), 3-tier cake, grooms cake, 50 cupcakes includes setup and delivery for $350. Each tier will have a different non fondant design. I’m in Florida.

Okay, so I used to decorate cakes at a bakery in my city!

Cakes are priced per person usually. Fondant is something that most people will pull off the cake and not eat. It’s for looks. But, a cake decorator does have the tools and ability to make buttercream frosting clean and look just as good as fondant!

A three tier cake without fondant feeding 100+ people will cost less than with Fondant.

I paid 425 for a 3 teir cake with fondant. I initially didn’t want fondany however I’m getting married in August in Maryland with and outdoor venue and the fondant will help with possible melting of the cake. I agree with a pp about the taste. It is baker dependant and the baker i chose uses a marshmallow based fondant which surprisingly was not awful.

SnowWhite25:  One thing I’ve learnt is costs vary dramatically depending on where you live. That said, we live in an expensive part of the UK and our cake was £460 ($735), including delivery, set up and hire of the stand and knife, for a 4 tier cake in different flavours (carrot; chocolate; vanilla) to serve 90, a cutting cake (lemon) to serve 40, and a dozen gluten-free cupcakes. It had piped decoration on 2 of the tiers and then ribbons and brooches on the other two. So, maybe shop around.

SnowWhite25:  I’m paying $630 for my 3 tiered cake but it’s not a simple design. It has a lot of detail and will take a lot of work. It took me a long time to find someone to do it at that price. Everyone I talked to before this bakery was like $800+ My cake is to feed 130 people
