I had six separate tiers of white buttercream cakes that were all decorated differently and they were $4.10 a slice.  One of them looked a lot like the first cake you posted.

The second cake you posted is going to cost a lot more.  That’s not just easy buttercream, you know?  That’s some serious decorating and ombre to boot.  Even if you weren’t going ombre I wouldn’t be surprised if they charged you more.  My bakery would be at least $.40 more, and maybe up to $1.60 more per slice to decorate like the second cake.

We had two flavors; dense almond and dark chocolate, both with two layers of white chocolate buttercream and pureed raspberry sauce.

Here’s mine:

And a pro pic of the double stacked with sugar flower:

We’re getting one similar to this:

For ~75 people & 3 tiers we were quoted around $2.95/serving I believe. It will be lemon blueberry pound cake with french buttercream. Very lucky to have a real French bakery in our town!

@csperry2:  Take it from a recent bride:  cake isn’t that important.  It’s nice to look at for like, 5 minutes, and then it gets carved up.  If your Fiance is dead set on a fancy cake, I’d do a very small fancy one and sheet cake in the back in the same flavor combo 🙂

For my wedding we are doing zebra and hot pink theme.  For a 4 tiered cake with 12, 10, 8 & 6″ it is $130 and for a 10, 8, 6 & 4″ it is $95.  Ours will be similair to this:

We’re going with buttercream frosting because Fiance and I really don’t like fondant. But, I’ve never heard of “textured” buttercream. Anyway, we’re going with a two-tier cake that’ll serve 50 for $250.00.

@laurn88:  This cake is so pretty! I love simple cakes like this. Less is more In My Humble Opinion 🙂

Our cake is extremely similar to your first photo with buttercream frosting, except ours has fresh flowers cascading down the cake. It’s about $4.45 a slice. So about $400 for 90 people. Flavor is marble cake with a mocha filling.. so delicious! It’s going to be a three tier cake. We had so much fun at our cake tasting & we ended up liking something completely different than we thought we would. We also got to pick the specific fresh flowers we wanted. I brought in a sample photo of what we had decided and they were glad I brought it!

@csperry2:  thank you 🙂 glad I could help out. I like the textured buttercream because it can still be fancy, but not as pricy (and yucky tasting) as fondant.

@iheartsquishy:  thank you! that’s exactly why I liked it, not too busy & it matches my dress, haha!
