cake decorating is something that my sister/moh is into, but frankly she just isnt that great at it. i think she would enjoy a class at michaels or somewhere. i got this idea when i was thinking about doing a class myself because i want us to make our wedding cupcakes. i think it would be good bonding and something that although we would use for the wedding it is something she can use everytime she makes cakes.
does it sound too much like im giving this gift just so she would be better at helping with the cupcakes? does this seem selfish? i never thought of giving her a gift like this until i was thinking about our cake, but i think she will enjoy it.

If you want to pay for the class, that’s fine. But I wouldn’t consider this her gift for being a Maid/Matron of Honor.
Something else to consider: does your venue/state allow homemade food to be brought in? Alot of places do not allow it to be brought in at all if it is not from a bakery that licensed with the health dept. And if they do allow it, then your sister will be held liable if anyone happens to get sick.

our venue is our home. so its not a problem. all of our food is homemade!
good point for other brides though!

How about in addition to the class you can make her a baking gift basket with a cute apron and decorating tools?

I think the class is a great idea! I am sick of giving people stuff that just ends up sitting in their house somewhere gathering dust. A cute bag full of cake decorating joy would go perfectly with it.

i second @kaybee’s suggestion! the michael’s/AC moore classes are great! I’ve only taken one… but I know they are fantastic because I work for the company 😉 shameless plug, but no, they are a lot of fun and you really learn exactly what you need. heads up though that you are not just paying for the class. I think you need to get the beginners kit, icing, tools, etc just to take the classes.
if you guys are both into it though it sounds like a lot of fun.
