- Wedding: August 2012
Our original cake decorator’s husband got very ill, so she had to give our deposit back and refer us to another baker. We trusted her referral so went straight to the other baker. We made an appointment for a cake testing, and to meet her to go over details. She works out of her home, so when we showed up, she completely forgot about us so she had nothing ready for us. She barely even had any books for us to look at, and did not have any samples for us. All I did was gave her pictures I had with me of what we wanted. I gave her a $50 deposit, anyway to reserve the delivery. We arranged for her to make us a small cake and have it delivered to my family’s home.
The cake was decorated nicely, but the buttercream frosting was completely bland, and almost tasted like eating crisco right out of the container. The cake was super dry not moist at all. And on top of that, we tasted grains of salt. Like…crunchy salt pieces throughout the cake. Turns out she uses boxed cake batter- Duncan Hines- which I use, and sorry but I don’t taste salt at all.
So I asked for our $50 deposit back via e-mail and voicemail (twice) and haven’t heard back from her. I just provided her with my address so hopefully I will be getting a check in the mail next week.
I already scheduled a cake testing with a more well known baker and 30 year cake decorator specializing in wedding cakes, so hopefully this one works out because the wedding is almost 2 months away.
