- Wedding: April 2012
New to posting in the forums, but have been a delighted wallflower for some time. =)
Hey Bees! My name is Monica and I am set to marry in April here in Austin, to my lover and best friend Mark Morales. We are missing just a few key pieces to perfecting our wedding day. My planner has offered in connecting me to a few bakers in town, but the crazy part is I have no idea what I want!?? I don’t have a big sweet tooth and neither does my FH. We just know that the groom’s cake has to be German Chocolcate. But what about the main wedding cake?! What is something nontraditional but still a crowd pleaser and WIN/WIN for everyone on our guest list?
The subject says it all…
I am supposed to be meeting with a cake designer/baker, who was a pastry chef for one of Wolfgang Puck’s (famous TV Chef) restaurants in Dallas. All I have told her within our 15 minute phone conversation was that I wanted her to offer me something delicious and fluffy. Presentation is important, but I always prefer a buttercream crafted cakes over a bland flavored pefectly molded fondant. I know I want cupcakes added in for the little ones and messy eaters to enjoy too!
I am very hard to piss off or easy to please, many would say. My FH Mark is also a water sign that goes with the floooow. So we have no idea as to making a decision but want to treat our guests to something rare and sweet.
Our wedding style…which is an eclectic edge with some vintage charm. Think modern, muted subtle prints. Lots of playful patterns and colors thrown in. Our colors are orangey-reds, navy blue to a softer muted blue, and canaray yellow with pops of eggplant. I know it seems all over the place and scatter brained, but all it really is are our favorite colors paird together. It was pretty simple to come up with as it just made sense. It’s us all wrapped into one special day.
A very effortlessly cool and offbeat Austin style wedding.
We will have pedi-cabbers haul us away from the venue, located at the Austin Botanical Gardens just minutes from downtown and our hotel at the Stephen F. Austin hotel. It really is the perfect place to celebrate our love being that we are both active Austinites, that frequently visit the parks off Barton Springs. Our first date ended perfectly with a long walk that entered the hike and bike trail after a dinner at Whole Foods. We would have entered the Botanical Gardens had they not closed the gates at 5:00pm! Grrr!
Alright! I will stop blabbing… sorry I am just so excited. We just came back from our venue walk through with our planner this evening and I am just ready for this day to happen already… BUT FIRST I NEED A CAKE!
