Our plan is to ask each of the women in our families to make a 9″ round cake and have a cake buffet of sorts. (I explain my reasons why in this post: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/cakeis-this-a-weird-idea)
These are the flavors I know for sure:
My mom: Boston Cream Pie
My stepmom: Carrot cake (she makes it homemade, and it is super yummy)
FI’s mom: German chocolate
I need 5 more flavor ideas (for grandma and aunts and me!), and I’m stumped. I suggested red velvet, but Fiance doesn’t like red velvet.
What are your favorites?

According to every newlywed asked, the couple only gets to eat the bite of cake they feed each other. Just because you or your FH doesn’t like a certain flavor doesn’t mean that someone else attending won’t like it. You can’t base all your food choices on whether you like it or not, especially since newlyweds say they barely get to eat anything, while they remember the food of every wedding they have attended as a guest and whether it was good or bad.
Take a poll of your guests and see what they like. Folks here at WB will have different tastes and preferences than your family and friends.
As far as red velvet goes, it’s about 50/50 with people either loving it or hating it with no middle ground at all. If you’re stumped for ideas, do a Google search for “cake flavors” of various bakeries to see what is out there as your options. From what I have seen of the options, you are literally limited by your imagination. Finding a recipe to make them is a different story.

I found this article on the Knot to be really helpful for flavor suggestions (see the blue bar on the right).
