I voted vanilla cake/choc butter creme because I generally don’t prefer chocolate cake… but what about a lemon cake with a vanilla butter creme? I was a little leery of citrus overload with the lemon cake + lime buttercreme combo (although I haven’t tried it).

Either vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream or chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream. I’m a fan of the chocolate/vanilla combo.

Unless you are only having one layer, you can have more than one flavor. A friend chose these 3 flavors:

    almond with berry filling

    peach schnapps

    Tiramisu

How many tiers is your cake? I’m asking because ours has 5 and we are doing a different flavour for each and no extra cost to get around your issue.

I’m a coconut lime fan – but ended up choosing the lemon/lime combo, because some people don’t like coconut… now that I know you can have two different kinds I think you should do 1&3 tiers in the coconut/lime and the other in vanilla or chocolate cake.

I like coconut cake but have a weird aversion to limes (i love lemons though). How about a coconut cake with vanilla buttercream?

I think they all sound fantastic!  If you are only doing one flavor, I would be weary of coconut, I know of many people who hate it.  But if you have more than one flavor, I wouldn’t worry about it!

Edit, Just noticed you are having more than one flavor.  Any will be wonderful! 🙂

yum. i would love to try the coconut cake/lime frosting. However your safest is probably vanilla/vanilla. is there any chance you can get your top tier with the coconut lime in order to try it with your new husband at a later time?

im thinking of having 5 tiers:

1 gluten free – probably vanilla on vanilla (smallest tier)

    the 2 largest tiers

middle tier will be red velvet (my fave)

4th tier – probably chocolate with vanilla icing

Boo on vanilla!  It may be the most popular flavor but I think it is boring and safe.  I love coconut/lemon/lime anything that will be a suprise.  Go with what YOU want since you get to take the first taste!
