We’re having a 4 tier cake to serve 100, plus a cutting cake to serve 40. We’re definitely having fruit for the top tier (my mum wants fruit and given she’s paying for most of the wedding I think that’s only fair lol); but we’re stuck on the rest because they’re all SOOOO good!
Double chocolate with chocolate fudge
Vanilla sponge with raspberry jam and buttercream
Sicky toffee with toffee buttercream (thought this would be horribly sickly but OMG it’s gorgeous!)
Carrot cake (with traditional cream-cheese style filling)
Lemon drizzle cake with lemon buttercream (again wasn’t sure as I thought it might be too strong, but it’s very delicate)
Also, how many flavours would you have? We can have up to 4, but I’m thinking to maybe just have 3 so that there’s more of each flavour to go around (as the second tier from the top will be small so not many servings; which would be gutting if it’s popular).
PS. all cakes are vegetarian and free from nuts, and we’re having gluten-free cupcakes for our one coeliac guest, so all bases are covered in that regard.

@barbie86: ide stick with the vinilla spunge because some people like basic but then the chocolate (heaven cake) toffee because maybe people ahve a big sweet tooth an want to have something OMG, then the carrot cake because all the old people love it…lol i would go with 4 flavors 🙂

OMG Those all sound amazing! We’re doing a dessert bar, so we are just going to have a small cake…one layer is going to be white cake with lemmon chiffon mousse and raspberry filling and the other one is FI’s pick, which will be red velvet with raspberry filling (Sooooo good! lol)

Just to add, if people could comment on why they’ve voted for what they have that’d be fab! Especially re the 3 vs 4 flavours thing, would love to know if my thinking is on the right track!

@barbie86: i agree that you should have 3 flavors + fruit cake for your mom (very nice of you) and have the most popular flavor be the 2nd tier from the top +cutting cake. i voted for chocolate, carrot and lemon because people typically get excited about those flavors. I would eat the chocolate, so i would guess that would be your most popular.

From my personal experience with the wedding cake…it is very hard to vote for anything until you taste it…(I voted for vanilla cake with raspberry anyway)…But in my case we had an option to taste 3 flavors and choose 2 for the cake…and for the tasting I picked chocolate fudge, strawberry shortcake (because usually those two are my favorite options, and I was sure I will decide on them)..and then my FI said we should try mixed berry bavarian cream with some rum flavoring or whatever…I told him that it is pointless cause it wouldn’t be the one…And guess what…after we tasted it, all of us loved it so much that we chose it as the only flavor for out 4 tire huge cake..I can’t wait for the wedding day to eat the whole thing myself without sharing with guests lol…
But…on top of us having only one flavor for the cake…we will have desert buffet with all kinds of tiny deserts…which will give guests variety…This is the picture…but not all deserts were captured…only couple…and we will have 8 different kinds..
