    Are you sure you have to use fondant for the diamond pattern? We had something similar — our baker called it quilting — and we had a buttercream-frosted cake.

    I think they are both beautiful! Does your Fiance have an opinion?

    i love both ur cakes, but i see your point. The second is more plain.

    an option: on the 2nd cake- make it more like your favour boxes.  keep the hot pink ribbon as is. Then have them make the portion of the cake above the pink all damask.

    A few things to note….

    First, you don’t have to decide firmly on a cake when cake tasting or when booking your baker for that matter. Most vendors know that a bride is bound to change her mind at least once. I would take a few photos of cakes that you like with you to the tasting to give them an idea to base their quote on but really it doesn’t need to be nailed down quite yet.

    Also, home made fondant doesn’t take bad at all and most of the time they include buttercream underneath so you can peel the fondant right off if you want. The first design has fondant stencils along with the quilting design so it might be difficult to replicate in buttercream, especially if you want clean lines.

    I love the second – goes much better with your theme!  The ‘new’ one is very pretty, but not your colours…  and actually wouldn’t look AS good in your colours.  Your original choice isn’t plain, it is a statement, and elegant!! 😀
