I don’t know anyone who has used fudge for cake icing.  It’s usually fondant versus buttercream.

Buttercream is smooth and tasty but doesn’t hold up as well in heat.  Fondant is very easy to work with and can be made very smooth-looking but it doesn’t taste very good.

Fondant is super pretty, but super yucky also!!!

I say go with buttercream!!

If your wedding reception is outside you will probably need to have fondant, just pull it off before you eat your slice of cake.  If the wedding is inside I would go with buttercream.  Although if you know a baker that makes marshmallow fondant than I would go with that because it actually tastes good.

Buttercream

Rolled Fondant:

Fondant gives a much smoother look, especially if you have anything intricate on your cake. Buttercream is yummier but doesn’t hold up in the heat.

If you’re going for looks… fondant.

If you’re going for taste….buttercream.

I’ve tried alot of diff flavors of fondant and have not found one I like. Ew

I second the idea of looking into marshmallow fondant, it is pretty good.

Definitely third the idea of marshmellow fondant, it is easy to work with and tastes yum! Esp. if you use flavored marshmellows.

I think butter cream is rather gross.  You don’t use either fondant or buttercream, you always use an icing like buttercream and put the fondant over it.

We had a baker suggest chocolate fudge fondant (for the grooms cake), she said it tastes like tootsie rolls. I personally don’t like tootsie rolls but my mom thought it sounded like heaven on cake.

Here in Estonia it is really difficult to find a cake not covered in fondant or marzipan (ick and ick)!
