I don’t think you need one unless you want it As a keepsake. My cousin and her husband had cupcakes & they just fed each other bites of their cupcake.

I don’t think so, unless you really want one then go for it. But if you’re having cupcakes to feed each other in place of the traditional cake cutting, then I don’t think you NEED to have one.

That said I got mine (Vera Wang Wedgewood) for $2.50 from RueLaLa because they gave me a $25 promotional credit for no reason! It was a deal. But afterwards it will mostly sit in a box, so I didn’t feel the need to splurge.

I don’t think so. We intially weren’t going to have a cake but long story short, ended up with one and I realized “huh, guess we need a cake cutter!”. My mom offered to buy a kate spade set, but I just felt like it was a waste of money, so I bought a set from Hong Kong on ebay for $5, including shipping. It looked nice, and while it was super flimsy (we felt like the handle was going to break off when we cut the cake) – we didn’t care. I don’t even know where it is right now – I’m assuming in the pile of wedding stuff at my parents’ house, but I even told our DOC that she could take it or leave it at our venue in case another bride needed one some day.

We weren’t planning on doing the cake cutting at all because we both are aren’t huge fans of cake and would rather have a sweet table, as we know our venues makes off the charts desserts (and we both have sweet tooths).  Then, my fiance’s grandma offered us to use her wedding knife that she has been saving all these years.  The knife is absolutely gorgeous and his grandparents had truly an amazing and inspiring marriage, so there was no way we could say no!  We ended up adding some cupcakes and a small cake to cut to our sweet table.  However, had that knife not exhisted, I wouldn’t have even considered buying one (even if other relatives convinced us to add the cake cutting back in- I would have just used a plain knife at the reception).

I don’t think you need it. It’s really just if you want it. My parents still have their set, it’s engraved with their names and wedding date. They’re having our names and date engraved on it as well. So we’re using that.

We’re cutting the cake, but we didn’t buy a special server – I just asked the caterer to make sure we had something to use. I see it as a purely utilitarian item though and didn’t understand why people thought I would have a sentimental attachment to a cake server! If you’ll cherish it (or don’t have one already and need one for your house) then do it – otherwise just make sure the cake is pretty and tasty enough that no one notices what it’s cut with 🙂
