That is really strange… Even at an additional rental cost?

Anyway, I vote cupcakes. No need to add extra work. You could do a small mini cake for the cutting if you want.

I love cupcakes! I don’t think cupcakes would make it any less formal. If you are planning on setting up a dessert/candy bar you can just put it with that and people can just grab the cupcakes and other goodies.

Have you tried to negotiate with your venue about this policy?

To be honest, if your reception is very formal I think a cake is more appropriate. But, I don’t think it’s worth paying extra to be able to have a cake.

If your venue really won’t budge or negotiate on this, go with a very beautifully decorated cupcake. Maybe with pearl accents or something.

You can order really elegantly decorated cupcakes and it would be fine.

Cupcakes all the way. They are no less elegant, just self contained!

I think cupcakes are so cute! so a cupcake stand with a mini cake on top to cut or something like that. Anyways I think its really weird they wont let you use their dishes for cake, that seems strange to me, but cupcakes are so cute, and no extra work needed there!!

You can make cupcakes elegant!!! I love the idea in the picture. I say save money on plates you have to provide, cupcakes seem to be the right choice for you.

That’s so weird! But I like cupcakes anyway because I love having lots of options. We’re either doing a cupcake tower or a many layer cake with tons of different flavors for that reason… so for you I’d def go cupcakes and then do a small cake for you two so you have something to cut. 🙂

Agreed on the cupcakes!

Although I’m kind of biased, because we’re doing them. I just kinda want a picture of us cutting a cupcake with a ridiculously long knife (or sword!)
