I’m trying to find a cake stand/plate that is large enough for 14″ round cake and can support 3 layers and I feel like I’m beating my head against a wall. So I have several questions for the hive:
- My cake baker said to look for a 16″ cake stand but could I get away with a 15″ cake stand?
- My dream stand is clear so I’m trying to find glass or crystal but I can’t seem to find any large enough! Do they just not make clear ones over 13″? I am open to a blue/cobalt colored one also. I just don’t want the typical silver one a’ la the picture below.
- Does anyone have any ideas on how to go about a DIY cake stand? I’m not looking for something that gives the cake a lot of height i just want it to be elevated some because i’m covering the table with tulle and christmas lights underneath that. maybe something with a large enough plate/platter? do they make flat plates that large?
any help would be so greatly appreciated! i’ve tried googling for cake stands but either i don’t know the “correct lingo” or i just can’t find many options.

do a search on Amazon.com- they have 16 inch cake stands
I have used an ordinary tray in the past for a large-18 inch -cake- where the cake was also surrounded by tulle and didn’t need elevation.
You could also use a tree slice like this:
