Your bakery should be able to answer that. If you tell them the number of guests and that you are having a dessert, they will be able to estimate.

You may also want to consider serving it on platters instead of individual plates… That way, people won’t be shy abt going back for seconds if they like, and you won’t have plates of cake untouched if some people are too busy dancing.

@hardtoconcentrate: I’d imagine the venue would slice up the cake as normal, but instead of putting it on individual plates, they would just put a stack on a big platter and put it in the middle of each table for people to help themselves (I’m imagining each person would have a little dessert plate).

I love cake but I cannot believe how expensive it is either! I would much rather have a plain one sitting in the back that the kitchen could just serve up, rather than a huge decorated expensive one. My fiance insists though so I’ve had to agree.

Is it an option for you to scrap it altogether? If you already have dessert sorted, and aren’t into cake, getting rid of it might be a great idea!
