We are having cupcakes for our wedding and the very top tier will have a small cake for the traditional cake cutting ceremony. My future Mother-In-Law gave me a vintage cake server I like but with no knife, however it is seraded (sp?) on each side so I could use it to cut with. Do I have to have a knife? Will it look odd if I don’t?

Most brides use the serrated edge of the cake server. That’s what it is for.

Our cake server set came with both – the long knife to cut, the server to serve.

I’d say your fine with what you have!!

If you can cut with the edge of the server then you’ll probably be fine, but most are sold in sets with a knife and server since a lot of servers don’t have serrated edges.
If you decide you want a knife, BBB has open stock of nicer looking utensils including cake knives for about $7.

Hey there! What did you end up doing? I’m in the exact same position. I have an antique server, but no knife. One side of the server is serrated though. Thinking about just using the server. Is that tacky??

P.S. I HATE the cheap ones they are selling these days. They are horrible! I’m sorry, but if I wanted little gems glued all over the place I would buy a glue gun and do it myself. Cheap is not always a deal, if you know what I mean.
