If you had a cake topper, what did you go for?
If you didn’t have a cake topper what was your reasoning?
Fiance doesn’t think there’s a point, whereas I think a cake needs some form of decoration (whether it’s a topper or a design on the cake itself) to avoid looking barren.
All pictures of cakes welcome 🙂

My cake topper was really sentimental and silly…thank you for this thread because I actually LOVE telling this story!
When Darling Husband and I first started dating we lived in two different (but relatively close) cities. We’d take turns coming to visit each week and stay the weekend. One of the first weekends I stayed at his place, we hung out with my now Father-In-Law for a few hours. We were running some errands and dropped by the local ‘Mom and Pop’ pharmacy/drug store. I was wandering the aisles and noticed a cute little cake topper that was two little rubber duckies dressed in wedding gear. I remember marveling at how cute and quirky they were. As a joke I said to myself “if [DH] winds up being the one I’m gonna have to come back for that topper!”
After three years of dating he popped the question. To be honest, I’d kind of forgotten about the topper at that point.
Five months before my wedding (and about a year into my engagement), for reasons not relevant to this thread I had to re-plan my wedding from complete scratch. One day during that re-planning period I happened to be in that very pharmacy/drug store. I was stressed and tired…and then out of the corner of my eye….
I spotted that very cake topper. Covered in dust and pushed to the back of a shelf in the clearance section. As crazy as this is, I thought it was a sign and I grabbed it. The best part? At the register I casually told the story…and they gave it to me for FREE!
Sure, the little duckies kind of clashed with EVERYTHING and did look a little silly I will admit…but I am so glad I had them 🙂

Ours was something like this. I had planned on using it for a shadowbox in the future but whoever packed everything up at the end of the night broke practically EVERYTHING ;-(

We ordered ours from Etsy. My Fiance and I both loved that we could customize it. Here’s the generic topper from Etsy (not our customized one):
And here’s our vision for our cake:

BeeDD : I’m getting a personalized one from Etsy. It’s going to be sculpted out of clay to look like my Fiance and I! I’m so excited about it because it’s something that we can keep 🙂

I would put a cake topper just because I like the way it looks. These are the kind of toppers I like

My Cake topper… Got it on Etsy it is identical to what we will be wearing at our wedding… (My Dress, details of my hair, flowers and necklace and my Fiance Tux) and our wedding is baseball themed… needless to say that my Fiance has not seen it yet as I do not want him to know what I will look like… I think it will be a wonderful Keepsake for us… 🙂
