We’re doing cupcakes for a few reasons (with a small cutting cake on top).  One is that we’ll probably be transporting it from the bakery so it’d be easier than a cake with a few tiers.  Also, it’ll be easier to incorporate more flavors and at the same time guests can just grab which cupcake they want which gets rid of any cutting fees.  Also, there are a lot of really pretty cupcake stands/DIY ideas out there.  Smile

We did both!  It worked out to about 1/3 cake, 2/3 cupcakes.  We were able to still cut the cake but also had a variety of cupcake flavors.  People seemed to really like it.

I didn’t vote because I’m not doing a cake because it is tradition, I’m doing a cake because I think they’re GORGEOUS!  Cupcakes are cute too, but I’m obsessed with all the cake shows (especially the challenge ones) and there’s no way I’m not having a cake!

Though if there was a “cake cutting fee” at our venue, I would probably reconsider, lol!

We’ll be doing cupcakes as well with a small cake to cut on top. I LOVE cupcakes and it’s just easier.

I love pie. I want pie.

We will prob have a small cupcake tower or some such for those who want cake instead of pie, my partner has also requested cheese cake, so yeah, I think we’re going a different route.

@Miss Tattoo: The Children’s Museum does not have a cake cutting fee!  (That’s where I’m getting married).  And I’m doing buttercream icing for my cake, fondant is gross!

Cupcakes! – saves us money and fits our overall theme. Plus, they are just so cute and fun!

I think either is fine. I’m doing a cake because my venue pays for it. If I had to pay for the cake or a cake cutting fee or was trying to accomplish something look-wise or cost-wise that would be better with cupcakes, I would consider them. I’ve heard how you can do more flavors, make it look bigger, get it for less money, etc.

@Miss Tattoo: You don’t have to get fondant!  A lot of bakeries now can make buttercream look like fondant so you still get the gorgeous cake look without the icky fondant taste.  So definitely don’t go for cupcakes simply because you don’t like fondant.

Personally, I hate the new “cupcakes instead of cake” trend.  I can’t really put a finger on why exactly but its just very off-putting to me.  Maybe it a combination of cupcakes being eaten with your fingers doesn’t fit with the classiness of a wedding to cupcakes seeming to fit better with a little kid birthday party to I don’t even know what else.  But I just really dislike the trend.  To each their own though!

I love the idea of cupcakes, and I’m even considering them, but I hate trying to eat them because the icing gets all over your face. I’m not exactly a graceful eater, though, lol.
