@Sah: Where are you in New York? I’ll taste your cake! The more cake the merrier. Plus, I have the opposite problem. I am planning a Chicago wedding from New York, so my mom is tasting cake, and I never get to have a tasting.

But really, just ask Fiance what his fav flavors are, taste those, and get the one you dislike the least.

My Fiance likes cake & I am not a fan.  Instead we are having a dessert bar with a bunch of different options to coincide with our tastes.  (Cheesecake for me, chocolate for him)  We are going to have 5-8 differnt choices.  My mom was pretty against this idea as she wanted us to “have a cake to cut.”  So I decided on having this cake.  I LOVE rice krispie cake &  it’s only going to cost us $100 to get made.  Compared to the $500-1000 for a wedding cake.

I’m sure they’d let you do a “take-out” version of the cake samples, if you let them know ahead of time he can’t be there and you don’t eat cake. Are you going to have a different dessert for yourself?

@Sah:

If you don’t like cake, can your Fiance go without you?

I don’t really like cake either, but FH was set on having it.  He actually wanted two cakes (groom’s cake) because he’s from the south!  Instead we are doing one cake for him, and an ice cream sundae bar for me. Yum!

My mister doesn’t like cake so our main dessert will be a pie! (Our dessert spread will also include tortes, mini cheesecakes, etc).

Personally I love cake, and love the look of a beautiful wedding cake – so we will have a cake as well.  But per the wishes of the mister, it will be mostly for decoration (and a cake cutting).  I am still discussing with our cake designer but as of right now it will be 3 layers (2 of the layers will be fake to cut down on cost).
