    I voted “who cares?!” cuz i like dessert…..and s’mores are seroiusly one of my favorites. I pigged out on some this weekend. mmmmmm.

    Technically convention says you provide drinks and dessert at a wedding reception.  Whether or not you follow convention is up to you.  But I would say that you should either have cake or cupcakes to compliment your s’mores bar.  There are likely to be A LOT of guests who aren’t keen on eating s’mores for dessert.

    I have to admit, I’m a little confused why cupcakes would be a possible substitute if you don’t like cake – cupcakes a little miniature cakes…  They may cost less, but that doesn’t really help you if you don’t like cake.


    If I were a guest and you had a smores bar, I would probably only eat that and not a second dessert (like a cupcake).

    I think smores would bea cute and awesome substitute for a wedding cake. If you don’t like cake, why waste the money?

    I love smors bars but i know some people dont just make sure that there other treat that others can enjoy… I really like the cupcake one.. you can do half half and still be happy. good luck i know what ever you do it will turn out great 🙂

    I freaking LOVE s’mores, so I’d be good to go!  I can’t imagine anyone being horribly disappointed if you didn’t have a cake or cupcakes.  A lot of people don’t like cake either, or else they’re too full to eat it (that’s the category I always fall into… even though I love cake).  So, I think you should scrap ’em!  I’m all for saving money.

    I’d be happy with s’mores. If you want to provide more for dessert as well, you could always do something untraditional like warm cookies with milk, or pies or something. It’s your wedding, you should like the food!

    Dessert = GOOD!!

    I like s’mores.  I like cupcakes.  I like cake.  If you have space in your budget, then why not do s’mores *and* cupcakes, so it is more likely that everyone finds something that they like for dessert.  If not, then you should do whatever makes you happy.

    I am in your situation and my mother (out of the blue) has insisted we have a cake to cut for the photos.  Luckily, I don’t hate carrot cake and the place whose carrot cake I adore isn’t too expensive if we do a small two-tier cake with a really basic icing look, which my mom agreed to.  She is also helping pay for the wedding and if she wasn’t I may have ignored her cake request altogether.

    I think it’s fine to have smores as your only option as when I go to weddings and they only have cake it’s not like I complain.  Smores totally count as ‘dessert’.  If you want to offer the smore option as well that’s very nice of you, but don’t feel like you HAVE to Smile

    As, an fyi, we are having a trio dessert with our meal, of mini-creme brulee, mini-chocolate mousse and a mini-orange yogurt thing, and the cake won’t be enough to feed everyone, but my family and his family are actually not super keen on cake either, so I’m not concerned.

    Couldn’t you just have a sheet cake that could be pre-sliced for non-smore loving guests? I mean if you don’t love cupcakes then I don’t see the point in having those over cake – especially since I don’t think cupcakes would cost less.

    Are you going to do the make your own smores thing (Cosi style)? Or have them premade? I love being able to toast my own marshmallows (then again open flames may not be a good idea).

    so I voted for cupcakes because that is what we are doing and I LOVE the idea. However, I say it’s your wedding– do what you want and have fun with it!!
