So I booked my venue officially this morning because I was blown away by how quickly things book up around here… they were halfway booked for 2014 already, two years away!
I figure I better get on it with the rest of my vendors…
Who are you using for photographers in the Calgary area? I am thinking of using LeeLeeweddingphotography.com, they are a husband and wife pair (and having two photographers is important to me!) and their website pics and the ones they have on Facebook seem fine to me.
But… how do you know if that’s good enough? Has anyone used them before? Or do you have recommendations of other wedding photographers that will cover the whole day with 2 people for around $2000?
Thanks Calgary ladies!

@Pinkmoon: Finally received our photos from Troy yesterday. Our wedding was on Aug 27. Utterly disappointing! He sent us 5 CDs and a separate CD for the photo booth photos. No he did not take that many photos. We just got duplicates or triplicates or quadruplicates of the same shot. And most importantly, not a single family photo! He was there from noon-midnight. We did our “first look”. Granting we ran out time before the ceremony, he had the list of my must-have photos and family photos is a no-brainer. And they were there for 12 hrs. We paid for a second photographer, but all her photos had shadows. He didn’t even bother to photoshop them. There were golfers on our shots— like how difficult is it to photoshop them? Even an amateur should be able to cover them with grass, noh? We paid 3 dinners for him, his 2nd photographer and the photo booth operator. We recommended him to people and this is what we get. It’s unfortunate that we told people not to take photos and just to enjoy themselves because we paid for 2 photographers. The contract includes an online gallery and a photobook but we didn’t hear back about either so we wonder if he knew he was an epic fail on this one. He had nothing good to show on an online gallery and we’d be lucky to have 10 nice photos for an album. Since I recommended him to you, I thought I should warn you and hopefully you have a better experience or you can plan to get a different one. We had a lovely wedding at Silvertip with live band and fireworks. It’s not like we skimped out on our event. But we don’t have much good photos for keepsake. The guy can’t even take fireworks photos. I’m sorry this is such a long rant. *sigh*

I’m looking at Anna Michalska now. I really like her style of photos and she seems to blog all of them so there are tons of examples.

You should look up Two Mann Studios— phenomenal work.

@pinkmoon: Haha, oh man, Anna Michalska does wedding photos now? She used to make anime drawings and post them up all over the web without even using a pseudonym. I think she went to ACAD, I’m sure you could google her DA account if you were curious. What a small world! Cool to find out about that, very surprising to recognize the name for me.

Oh wow. I saw your post from the Wedding Pavillion and was reading your other posts. My sister just used Troy Young for her photos and they came back amazing. We are using him for our wedding next year, he did our engagements and they turned out as wonderful as we had expected. Not sure what might have happened with the bride from Aug 27, but everything he did for our engagements and my sisters wedding were amazing and we all recommend him. I wish you the best and I feel you still made the right choice. Have you done your engagement photos yet with him? That will help you to feel better about it as well and see how he photographs you.

I’m new to this site just got engaged a month ago eeee, still so excited. Anyways my BFF introduced me to this site its where she got alot of info for her wedding and I just saw your post about photographers, and your unfortunate experince with Troy. And I must say I’m very shocked by this, my bff used him for her wedding and she was recomeneded him from her cousin. And I’m planning on useing him for our wedding/engament photo’s. I just loved the pictures my bff got from her wedding and the fact that you complained about getting mutliples of the same shot, we loved that cause it gave us options cause each picture was just a little different and Troy eddited each picture just a little bit different and then she was able to pick and choose each picture herself on what she liked, then Troy went back and eddited the pictures that she picked in the style that she wanted. And really how many pictures do you really want or need from the wedding I know my bff got like a 1000 or something but in the end she only used like 10,lol.Well she used more but not all 1000 of them. And have you tried photoshop? Its not that easy and I know it takes a long time to get it right and from what my bff said about him I’m sure if you asked him to edit something he would do it for you, I know she went back and forth with him for a bit till she was happy, just makes me think you didn’t ask him or talk to him about it.
Anywho I’m also looking at his queeen package and if thats the price you got it for I wouldn’t complain cause thats not he quoted me last week. But now in the package I can get a free bouquet and a HMUA, I think thats a hair and makeup artist. Either way it’s an awsome deal. I have booked my engament pictures with him for this weekend and I’m super excited for it. I really wanted ones for christmas. I will post again next week with my experince from him. And if it doesnt work at least its only engament pictures.

Sofia has a great personality and is very easy to talk to. She has great ideas and her work is amazing!! I looked into many, many photographers within Calgary. And I’m very happy with our choice!
