You’ll get more of the answers you want from a military specific website! But ill try to help a bit on the weather front.  I live in southern california, with my husband. Ventura county, more specifically which is about 4hrs north of San Diego. It’s beautiful weather generally up  here and in San Diego the couple times been there. know nothing about the base itself. But there is a ton of info online and on military specific boards. Good luck!

I’m not a military wife, but I have lived in San Diego for 10 years and grew up in Orange county (just north of San Diego county).  The weather is fantastic out here!  The summers are warm but we do get May Gray and June Gloom where the fog rolls in and sometimes doesn’t clear all day, but come July, it is perfect.  It usually doesn’t cool off completely until sometime around November.  Not totally unheard of to spend Christmas Day in shorts and a T shirt because of a freak 80 degree day.  Winter is mild…a few rainstorms here and there but nothing compared to the snow in the midwest or east coast.  It doesn’t usually get too humid, which is fantastic.  We do have fire season starting around now until October/Novemberish.  You’ll hear everybody on the weather talk about the “Santa Anas”~ the hot, dry winds that roll in off the desert.  They can make your allergies act up sometimes, but it’s managable.

San Diego is amazing…so many things to do and see.  Hell, I’m still finding out about little places and things that I’ve never heard of before.  It is a big city but it still feels a bit small townish depending on where you end up.  The schools are pretty good (for future kids) and the medical care around here is top notch.  I have a lot of military friends who get super bummed when they get transfered away.  You guys are lucky!

Will you guys be at Miramar or Pendleton?

@marinewifetobe:  I grew up about 20 minutes north of Pendleton.  If you decide to live off base, look into, San Clemente.  It’s north of the base just over the county line in Orange county, but I know a lot of Marine families live there. It is such a quaint little beach town.  I spent many summers hanging out at the pier there.  It’s got a very small town vibe.

If you ever get “homesick” for snow, Big Bear is only a few hours away and it’s the biggest, best ski resort in Southern California.

Hi! I was born in San Diego and have family down there so I can give you some info about the weather. The lowest it can get is in the low sixties. It only snows in the mountains (according to my grandma). I’ll talk to her later and try to get some more info for you 🙂
