My Fiance and I have just moved to LA and are saving money for our full blown honeymoon. So in the mean time we want to do a minimoon somewhere nearby to LA. Does anyone know of a fantastic place to stay that is maybe a hidden gem adn doesn’t cost an arm and a leg? A la, if money weren’t a factor, we’d stay here:
We want to have a hot tub, and a view… and not spend more than $300 a night.

We are headed to Catalina Island for our wedding anniversary and pretty much plan to do everything you would want to do on a mini-moon…romantic walks by the ocean, great meals at restaurants, time in the hotel. 🙂 I have heard from a lot of people it can be a great place to go.
Check out this thread where I recently asked for ideas: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/catalina-island-honeymoonanniversary-ideas.
Feel free to add your own specific thoughts/questions there if you have them.
I also did a search for California honey/minimoons when I was first planning our trip and a lot of great ideas (Carmel, Napa Valley. etc.) popped up throughout WeddingBee so check that out too!

If you want something relaxing, Carmel, Napa Valley, Santa Barbara…you have a lot of great location choices! For a unique experience, Monetery Bay is a fantastic little old-charm type place (with an excellent aquarium if you’re into that!). For something more urban, get a room at the W San Francisco (one of my favorite hotels!) or head to San Diego. Or there’s always Disneyland- you may think it’s a bit ridiculous for adults to go to but my fiance and I go EVERY year as a rule and have a blast staying in the Disneyland Hotels and dining at Napa Rose 🙂

I was going to second the Monterey/Carmel suggestion. I love it there! Lots of great & beautiful hotels for much less than $300 a night.

How about the Sycamore Springs Resort and Spa in San Luis Obispo? I believe each room comes with its own personal hot tub.

I’m thinking of taking a cruise as a 1st anniversary trip- it leaves from San Diego and stops on Catalina Island, Ensenada Mexica then back to SD.
Around the time of your wedding it’s about $300 a person for 4 nights (and includes all your meals!).
I’ve never been on this particular cruise, but I’ve been on 2 other Carnival cuises and they were A LOT of fun.

Ditto to Miss Duckling! SD would be a GREAT place for a minimoon 🙂 or honeymoon for that matter.

MrsSpitzer: We are most likely going to Catalina for our minimoon! 🙂 It is beautiful and reasonable. Can’t beat that!

Thanks so much! I’ve been looking into all those areas and they seem great. Any specific place to stay suggestions or hidden gems? Quick recap of what we are looking for: Nearish to LA, $300/night max, hot tub or jacuzzi, view!

Wow, THAT is a beautiful place in Big Sur… I wanna go there someday!
But we are also saving for a bigger honeymoon on a later date and live in L.A. We are spending our mini-moon in San Diego. Definitely spending half that amount on our hotel, plus there’s lots to do there, nice weather, etc. There might be a few hidden gems around La Jolla area, maybe?
Also, you might want to look in the Santa Barbara area or possibly San Luis Obispo, near the wineries.

I’m going to second (I mean, fourth?) Catalina Island as a great minimoon spot in SoCal! Just enough things to do in a 3-4 day period, it’s such a fun, cute little getaway.

Well we went to Joshua Tree and stayed at a GREAT B&B just outside the park boundries. It was amazing! I’ll post a link to pictures and review when I post them on my blog – in the mean time – if anyone else is thinking of this area PM me for info!

I love big sur: The Big Sur lodge is nice. My Fiance and I have been wanting to stay in the yurts at Treebones. I like the Ballard Inn in Santa Ynez/Solvang. Also, someone said the Sycamore. That is a lovely place.
For our wedding night, we are staying at the Montecito Inn. It’s lovely and it’s Charlie Chaplin’s old house. Next door, Lucky’s is amazing! I like the Mexican Food restaurant across the street too!
