I am planning a wedding this year in Calistoga. However, I live in Oklahoma and want advice on dates. The venue that I have chosen (Hans Fadhen) only has 3 dates available in 2013, the last two weekends in August and Friday November 1st. My concern for August is not giving my guests enough time to plan/budget as the majority are in Oklahoma. I’m hesitant about November b/c of weather. Worried it may be too chilly and/or rain. Planning on getting married outside and have an indoor/outdoor reception. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

@acpayne: Congrats on choosing our gorgeous area. I have been to two weddings at Hans Fadhen and they were lovely.
To answer your question I would personally be more inclined to go with the November 1st date for several reasons. First, late October/Early November is one of the most GORGEOUS seasons around here. It starts to get cold enough during the night to really bring out the fall colors and you will be set for some spectacular photos and back drops at the local wineries. Also, the temperature is average of mid-60’s during the day which is quite pleasant around here. Yes there is the chance of rain usually starting around late October but to be honest we get most of our rain starting in late November going into December (Dec, Jan, Feb heaviest rain months around here).
I am not a fan of Calistoga in August (I have relatives that live there). It is hotter, hills are brown, vineyards somewhat bare, can be slightly muggy and can get up to 90’s-100 degrees during the day. It is a very busy time of the year tourist wise and prices are high throughout the valley for accomodations, food, gas etc. You will find it takes longer to get anywhere and traffic can be frustrating.
Either way it is a gorgeous location and best of luck with whatever you decide.

@acpayne: There’s always a chance of rain at the November time of year and there’s definitely a fall nip in the air. Even if it’s not rainy, it can get a bit grey around Halloween. However, if you get lucky and it’s a sunny weekend, it will be FAR more beautiful than in August. Personally, I’d probably take November and just gamble the weather will be nice enough.
However, if you’re more inclined towards hot, hot, hot weather, I’d say go for August. I don’t think it’s too short of time to plan for your guests.

My preference would be the late August date. This is especially true since you are doing indoor/outdoor. The evenings will certainly be nippy in Nivember!
Last summer wasn’t even too bad. Hoping for another one like last year!

Thank you all for your advice. Very helpful, however, a bit contradicting. Want the best for my guests and for my wedding. I was in Calistoga this past weekend and the hotels we looked at our almost full in August, yet available in November. That may be because its chilly in November? It’s pretty important that I can have an outside ceremony but also want the weather to be tolerable. Might need to flip a quarter?! Lol.
Any other suggestions are very much appreciated! Thanks again!
