So I was browsing another thread and was reading about how expensive someone’s cake was and couldn’t remember how much ours was…until I remembered it was free, duh!
So out of curiousity, what did you get for free or a discount for your big day? Anything super amazing? I thought getting my hair done for free and our cake for free were pretty dang awesome!
Here’s my breakdown of things I can remember. What’s yours?
Hair and Makeup (Friendors, though I tipped them of course)
Cake (Gift; one of our guests owns a bakery)
Transportation (DH is a car guy and asked a friend)
Tux & Shoes (DH’s Tux was free since his guys rented from there)
Day-of Coordinator (Free services, we tipped her of course)
Venue (25% off because DH’s dad knew the place)
Dress (Big Sale!)
Invites, Guest Book & Save-The-Date Cards (Coupons)
Food (Friendor, so it was barely more than at cost)
Favor boxes, My shoes, Centerpiece holders, Linens, Drinks, Ring Bearer Pillow (All of this I found on sale of some sort)

So far the only thing I’ve been able to get for cheap is amazing ceremony musicians. I have a friend who plays violin with the local symphony so her and a cellist will play my ceremony for $100.

I met with my hors dourves caterer today. He is a very good friend of my Cousins. Apparently he has cooked for black eyed peas, Jabbeerwocky, all KINDS of artists. And he is making us an amazing menu, with rabbit in the stuffed mushrooms..for like $300! for 250 ppl! his resume is crazy impressive…I feel bad we are getting such a great deal for so cheap! He is def hooking us up with some amazing food! My videographer is a friend of mine and is only charging me $700 for all day coverage and 3 camera people. That is a steal as well.

Well, as a wedding photographer, most of my vendors are people I know and regularly work with. I’m getting discounts on most everything, all were offered by the vendors without me even asking – just them doing it to be nice. Some vendors suggested a trade, and I was MORE than happy to take them up on it. For example, several vendors are trading me things or giving me things at cost in exchange for family portraits or promotional pictures for their business.
A good friend owns an event rental company, and she’s helping out BIG time. My ceremony is actually on her parent’s property, and they aren’t charging me but I’ve got a pretty large gift to them planned as a thank you, because I know they won’t accept money and I’m very thankful.
It never hurts to ask though. Our caterer is giving us a discount on the per person price for the reception, because we are also using them for the rehearsal dinner. I think that’s probably a standard thing they’d offer to anyone, not just me.
