Our wedding is exactly two months from today and because of our vendor’s mix-up, we won’t get the invitations from the printer until August 17th at the earliest. We SHOULD, however, get the envelopes tomorrow. We’re planning on hand-addressing the envelopes ourselves rather than hiring a calligrapher because at least this way, we have total control over when we get the envelopes finalized. I know everyone says to go with a calligrapher, but do you think our guests will think it looks cheap or tacky that I’ve addressed them myself? I’m by no means a calligrapher though I do have neat, basic, handwriting (not cursive, just print). We’d really like the envelopes to be ready to go so we can just stuff them the day we get the invitations and send them out, but I’m worried that people will think it’ll look tacky. Our invites are NOT uber-traditional, they’re thermography on ecru stock with fall motif in a folder with direction and reception cards too… Your thoughts?

I’m going to be hand addressing mine, but it’s mainly from a budget standpoint. I honestly don’t think your guests will think you are cheap just because you didn’t hire someone to address the envelopes they will eventually throw away.

I don’t care if it is addressed by you or by a calligrapher… as long as its hand addressed 🙂 I’m just one of those crazy people who is not a fan of labels.

I really dont think anyone will think you are cheap for hand addressing. You do have a third option in printing the address onto the envelope. We selected a font we liked (Zapfino) and then printed them and everyone commented that they thought it was great. (woohoo for free and nice looking!)

I’m currently hand addressing out save the dates, and will be doing the same with our invites. It’s so much easier on the budget, and I think it lends a personal touch!
