Where in Aus are you? Sydney here. Mines an 0.8ct solitaire and probably about average for my social circle. My close friends range from about 0.7-1.5.most on the lower end of that scale  therefore I would class anything over 1.5 as big. But, i am from the UK where diamonds are typically a lot smaller so I still feel my stone is a substantial size and I don’t think I’d go bigger for myself. I’ve never felt its inferior to others i see around.

I am actually American but live in Brisbane. My ring is a 1.6ct oval centre stone and I always get comments about how big it is! Back home it doesn’t seem to stand out as much.

What shape is it? I can’t think there is any way it would ever be considered small!

What city are you in? Even when I lived in Melbourne, I didn’t notice many really big stones – perhaps a few in the more flash parts of town!

beefabulous:  2 carats. I’m in a regional area and to be honest anything over 1 is probably considered “big” however I’ve been on the bee for so long that to me, 2 is probably starting to get on the massive side.

Well I agree. Anything over 1 to be considered big and I’m from Canberra.

Average is about .5 – 1 in my opinion.

beefabulous:  I think these boards sometimes give us a bit of an unrealistic expectation haha. Most of my friends are probably a bit under a carat. I’m sure I’m biased, but 1.6 with a halo will look beautiful. ๐Ÿ™‚

I live in Adelaide but spend plenty of time in Melbourne.

Seriously, anything over a 0.5 is large in Aus.

I’m from Perth and agree with bluexelephant:  I think over 1ct is big. 1.6ct would be quite big to me, especially with a halo! I just did a quick Google of the average engagement ring size in Australia and the estimates were all between 0.5 and 1ct. A few sites also said they tend to go bigger in the US. I feel like the rings shown on weddingbee are generally way bigger than what I actually see around me in real life, so it might give a skewed perception. Your ring will be great, don’t even worry!

I’m an Aussie and I wear big bling! Most of my friends wear about 1 or 2 carats. I agree that in the US they have much larger rings etc

I have a 1 carat engagement ring and a 3 carat heirloom ring. The 1 carat would be considered average in our group, while the 3 carat is considered to be gigantic haha. I think anything over 1 is pretty big ๐Ÿ™‚

I like all sizes though ๐Ÿ˜

1-1.5 carats is getting to be ‘big’ to me (but not too big!). Mine is 0.61cts, it’s all relative.

I’m in Melbourne and I’d say 1+ carats is big in my circles/experience. I have a 1.2c equivalent moissanite and I didn’t want to go bigger because it just seemed huge! plus I know a lot of women with halos on their rings so larger stones would just end up seeming massive haha

I thought my half carat diamond was pretty decent until I joined the bee :/ I guess it depends on your social circle. 1.6 is huge IMO
