Don’t worry about the petticoat.  Get whatever dress you like and then buy a crinoline.  You can either get one that’s already hot pink or dye one.  There are tutorials on how to do so successfully.  You just need to get the right kind of crinoline!

I guess I would do it the other way… find a dress I loved and then find a petticoat that goes with it.  There are so many options with them, and they are relatively inexpensive.  Add to that the DIY option, and the whole world can be open to you!

Often petticoats are made of more than one fabric, and the tulle is synthetic which makes them hard to dye evenly. They’re not too hard to sew though, if you know your way around a sewing machine or know someone else that does. I made plenty for school theater productions, costumes and the like. Tulle comes in all sorts of colors, and if you make the petticoat yourself you can be sure it’s the right length for the dress.

Go to a local fabric store and see what they have in stock. Joann’s often has sales on patterns for a couple of dollars. Lots of pattern brands have patterns for undergarnments or costumes that include petticoats and crinolines.
