I ordered my dress 17 months prior to my wedding date (6/28/13). Dress is expected to arrive sometime next month. Alterations won’t be done until 1-2 months before the wedding so my dress will be lingering around for 8 months. I’m not sure whether to pick up the dress and take it home or leave it in the hands of the bridal salon? Most of my friends who have gotten married didn’t order their dresses early like me, their dresses came just in time for alterations. One of my friends suggested leaving it at the bridal salon so that if godforbid something happened to it they would be responsible which is a good point but a part of me would like to bring it home and know that my dress is home in a safe place where NO ONE is touching it but ME. Another friend of mine who is getting married 3 weeks before me ordered her dress early, put down payment, but the salon didn’t actually put her order in. Her bridal salon told her that they won’t put the actual order in until 10 months prior to the wedding to avoid the chance of the dress “yellowing”. Not going to lie when I heard this I got a little freaked out … I don’t want my dress yellowing! My bridal salon never mentioned anything about yellowing. Has anyone experienced this? I’m just so confused on what to do … feedback would be much appreciated … thank you in advance!

I just orederd my dress a year in advance… not sure what happened but somehow my dress came in in 2 weeks. I am upset as I was told it would take 6-9 months… now I am in the same situation, although the place where I ordered my dress will only hold on to it for me for 3 months… This yellowing of the dress really scares me now too! EEK!

Get wedding insurance. Then if anything happens to it you will be able to sort it out. I’ll be keeping mine at my mum’s friend’s house once it comes into the salon in December. It’ll even have its own room in the spare room haha.

I am leaving mine at the salon until the wedding. I would call the salon and ask about yellowing. I couldn’t imagine a dress yellowing in 11 months. I did a google search and it said it takes years for them to yellow. But I am far from an expert

I ordered mine more than a year in advance and it came in about 10 months prior. I moved out of state (which is why I ordered it so early) and I left it at the salon until this Monday. I trusted them and didn’t want to leave the dress at my parents house or haul it 8 hours in my car to my house and back again for the wedding.

I ordered my dress in August 2010 and it came in October 2010. My dress has been at the bridal shop since them, I go try it on every once in a while. But it will stay there until the latest possible, I don’t wanna bring it home until I REALLY have to.

My dress came in about 9 months before my wedding (much sooner than expected). My parents have it at their house for safekeeping. Personally, I wouldn’t want to leave it at the bridal salon.

I am in the exact same situation. They are close to ordering the dress, but my wedding is way off. I was told it won’t yellow if properly preserved, wherever it is stored. But I’m not sure if I want to leave it at the salon or bring it home.
The only place around here that had my dress (Maggie Sottero – Sabelle) is a really small place about an hour and a half from my house. I’m not sure I want the dress to stay there. I’m not even sure I would trust them to do the alterations. Given that last bit, I’ll probably bring mine home.

I’m glad to hear that the chance of yellowing is very slim when properly preserved, deff makes me feel a lot better!

As you know, my dress came today (but it was delivered to my door, so no option of bridal salon storage) and it’s a whole two years before our wedding. I don’t want to let it out of my sight! I would be all over that baby if I were you. As for the yellowing, good God, I hope that’s not true, because if it is, my dress will be reflective neon yellow by the time my wedding day arrives.
If I were you, I would take the dress and store it at a friend or family member’s house so that I could “visit” it whenever I wanted.

I got my dress early (it was supposed to come in mid-June which is early enough, but it came in late May!) but DB won’t hold on to dresses. So, it’s in a garment bag in my apartment. Fiance doesn’t want to see it, so he just lets it be.

I’m fairly certain that dresses only yellow if they’re left in plastic bags and the fabric can’t breathe. Get a cotton bag for it (DB sells them for like, $20 I think?) and they’ll be fine! I kept mine in one for about three months, and it was fine.

What is your dress made of? I’m sure some fabrics have a higher chance of yellowing than others. If it makes you feel any better, my dress is about a year old (got married last fall) and has been hanging in my closet, uncovered, since then. It is made of satin and is already an ivory color. I have not noticed any yellowing at all. Definitely get insurance and make sure it stays away from sunlight and vapors, that should help!!

I ordered mine on Saturday and it is supposed to arrive on August 10, exactly 1 year before my wedding. Its going to live in my parents closet so that I am not tempted to show it to my Fiance and won’t just walk around with it on and spill coffee on it. I hope it won’t yellow!

I left mine at the shop. I won’t pick it up till 1 week before the wedding. I would have talked myself out of it by now if I’d brought it home.
My colleague got hers way in advance and her husband kept going away on business so she started wearing it around her house. When she started washing up in it and hanging out in it on the sofa with her cats, we had to have a word with her.
