We are on a tighter budget for our wedding (about $8000) for 120 people. We are planning on a morning wedding and lunch reception. What did you do to save money? Anything worth splurging on? What did you DIY? How much did you save by doing things yourself? Any input, advice, or pictures of your wedding would be helpful!
Thank you 🙂

Costco flowers to do diy centerpeices
We tried to avoid site fees at all costs. So we are having it in the gardens at the santa barbra courthouse. before we decided on that we were looking at VRBO houses for rent. or the beach, or state/national parks.
And again we didnt want site fees for our reception either so we found a restaurant with a realistic food and beverage minimum.
My mom is baking the cake and cupcakes
Make your own wedding playlist to save on a dj
Thats what we are doing so far. If I think of any others I’ll come back and add!

I’m not a “DIY” bride but having the wedding on Sunday could save quite a few dollars. i would invest in photography and food personally. That was really important to me though you just need to figure out what do you have to have and go from there. Research and get quotes from a ton of vendors to see what kind of deals you can get.

Following this as we have a tight budget as well. Luckily my uncle is a DJ and has offered his services for free.
I am planning on doing the flowers myself; my sister’s bestfriend did her’s herself as well and they were adorable, so she has offered to help.
I also buy things that are on sale as I see them. Example: I’ve already purchased all of my Thank You cards. They were deeeeeeply discounted at Target when the stores were closing here in Canada.

I am having a country themed wedding, and while I wanted a barn wedding I am on a $4,000 budget and the cheapest barn venue in my area was $5,200 for just the venue, tables, and chairs… Lol. So, I settled for a different venue that is actually at a summer camp facility. It is really gorgeous yet rustic looking! I plan on converting it into a barn! We are getting married in front of a pond and the reception will be indoors.
Venue – $1,000 (Found this deal through tons and tons of research.. diamond in the rough venue)
Dress – $560 (On sale at local bridal boutique, my DREAM DRESS! It was a Maggie Sottero look a like. I have wanted the Maggie for years but knew I wouldn’t be able to afford it, this one is literally just like it… if not prettier!!)
DJ – $400 (Reccommended through a few friends, great deal!)
Food – Self catered, my step dad and his friend do BBQ for events so they will be doing a BBQ dinner for my wedding. Food will be roughly $500 and I will pay them for their work even though they told me not too.
Cake – $220 a local lady that does the most beautiful cakes I have ever seen!!
Chairs – $200 for 150 chairs. Tables are included at the venue
Decorations – I’m just picking them up as I find them, and doing tons of DIY so I don’t really know how much I will have in decor. Maybe roughly $500 once its all said and done, since I’m buying tons of vintage items and tons of white lights!
Photography – Local photographer does a great job. $750
All of that comes out to be right over 4k. We also have to purchase insurance but I’m not sure how much that will be. I love being able to save as much money as possible! I think I am going to be very happy with my budget wedding. 🙂

I am so excited! the pictures are going to be breathtaking!
And one more tidbit that helped me save money. I was fully prepared to bite the bullet and plunk down $3k for a photographer. Thats something I didnt want to skimp on. Anyways. I was talking about my wedding to coworkers and one of them said that their old roomate is a great photographer and if I wanted her info she would pass it along. Well I looked at her page and her style was what I wanted for my wedding (airy/photojournalistic) Got in touch with her and because I was T’s friend she gave me all sorts of discounts. Free engagement session, waived the travel fee, gave me an extra hour of coverage for free, and is giving my the albums at COST! (they are normally $1050 she is giving them to me for $300 and then $250 for each subsequent one).
Instead of finding a photographer based on price alone, which may mean you will sacrifice the style or quality. Put some feelers out for friends and family. You may be able to find a wonderful photographer that will give you a great family/friends discount rather than just some joe schmoe with decent pricing.
