One of my close friends is getting married in November, they’re honeymooning in Punta Cana.. I’ve decided instead of the normal shower gift I’m going to make her a honeymoon bag. So far I’ve gotten her: a beach bag, 2 beach towels, 2 pairs of flips flops, a floppy beach hat, a maxi dress, a cute “soaking in the sun” tshirt, suntan lotion, SPF chapstick, sunglasses, mr & mrs luggage tags and an underwater camera.
Does anyone have any other ideas, of small items I could put in the bag, that’ll come in handy on the honeymoon–not travel size things, I’m sure she’s particular and will bring her own soap, shampoo etc.
Also, while getting ready this morning I thought of a little poem to write out & attach to the bag, but maybe the more creative bees could spruce it up for me…
Here is a pink beach bag
I wasn’t sure what all you had
I hope these these things come in handy
When you go to Punta Cana where it’s warm & sandy

Very cute idea… seems to cover most things! Maybe bug spray? Or a small bit of money towards a couples massage or something?
Although the bag seems pretty full and awesome already!

I think this is very cool, cute, and thoughtful!
Maybe you could also include a homemade Dominican/Spanish/English dictionary with some “travel” phrases in it, like “Where is the bathroom?”, and also add a few funny ones for fun “I am very cold!” Or you could get a few crystals and put the date of her wedding or new name on the flip-flops and/or other accessories. Or add in a little timer to remind the couple when to turn or reapply when they’re sunbathing!

Some one gave us a brita refillable water bottle for our honeymoon and it was awesome! We used it everyday. That might be a nice thing to add

I’d throw in a good book as well. But everything sounds adorable and awesome. I’d love to get this.

I would definitely recommend returning the beach towels and using that money for something else. The resort where they’ll be staying will provide all the clean, fresh towels that they’ll need daily. When I travel, I try to get rid of any excess weight/items in my luggage that I do not need so that I can pack all of the other things that I really want to pack. (Plus, you don’t want them to have to deal with their own sandy/dirty towels while on they’re on their honeymoon. 🙂

@Brielle: This is a good point!

@LaCroix: I love the homemade travel dictionary idea.
I was going to suggest a travel guide to the area – I know Lonely Planet has a good one, and it looks like Fodor’s does, too.

That’s so sweet! I caution you, she may not have room in her bag for the larger stuff like towels
I LOVE your mr & mrs luggage tag idea and the underwater camera, so thoughtful!
-You could add a snorkel & mask
-my Fiance gave his Best man a funny “baby making” cd. It had cheezy stuff like smooth jazz on it.
– you could put some good books in there for reading on the beach, or magazines (hunger games?)
– cute bikini or cover up
– try going to the target dollar bins, they always have really cool stuff there!
– again I would go to target, they had great deals on earrings (like 1-2$ each) you can get some cute jewelry & a wrist watch

Reading over your list again, I’d note that you may want to consider getting her a sun visor or hat. (However, try to resist the temptation to buy her a really expensive and fashionble straw hat that will not pack well in her luggage. I have the most adorable one (and it was $40+ YEARS ago, and that was at about half price!) and I never take it with me anywhere because I don’t want to crush it in my luggage or have to wear it on the plane. 🙂

This is an amazing idea! And, I say keep the towels because it’s not like she can’t leave them at home. I’m sure she’d love to have some nice beach towels for theme parks w/water parks or whatever later anyways! I think this is an outstanding idea!! You should post a pic when you have it all together — love the little poem!

-Ditto on the book/magazine idea. Maybe you could also put in a book of crossword puzzles or word searches or Sudoku.
-Journal & nice pen.
-Favorite snack (for the plane ride)
Honestly, you have a really good bag already!

Add a disposable camera perhaps, and maybe go to the local currency exchange to trade in a small amount of American dollars for whatever currency they use in Punta Cana (for all I know it might be American, but I know whenever I travel internationally, I get a big kick out of playing with all the pretty money).
Make sure your sunblock and other items are all below 3oz so the TSA won’t confiscate them. Also if you’re going to add edible treats, don’t send anything homemade; store-bought and factory-sealed only, as there may be customs regulations that prevent anything not in a factory package from coming into the country.

@Brielle: The beach towels were cheap enough and I figure with moving into a new house they’ll want to have some beach towels. And if they choose not to take them on the Honeymoon that’s ok.
