Hi – I have an almost perfict square cushion stone. I’ve never seen an elongated one before in person. I’d like to see one live one day. I went for a solitaire setting too – had to have one designed for my stone. There were several issues with my stone, it is quite a bit deeper than most. Quite a bit! But, that makes me love it more, I feel the depth gives it deeper colors when it sparkes. No one can tell me any different.
But, I don’t have a basket type setting like yours. It makes me think I should get one some day. I threatened my designer I didn’t want to see him again so he made the prongs extra thick per my request/ demand. And my band is much thicker than yours, also my demand. I’m not a thin band girl but I do like the way they look. Sometimes I get jealous as much as I love mine.
Disclaimer: It is much more beautiful in person.

Oh No! I am so sorry your having so much trouble! I hope you will enjoy your ring as much I do mine. Its not too flashy or gauty! Some days I wish it was halo or flashier. My one requirement of my ring was to reflect our relationship: beautiful, simplistic, and the best of quality. I am planning to stack eternity rings that I may get in the future to give me more pop if wanted :). Im sure your ring will be gorgeous in the end. I was prepared to take my ring to a local jeweler in my hometown incase my fiancé wasn’t satisfied with his purchase. Maybe you can do the same. I agree with the convince and piece of mind of having such a large investment in a trusted jewelers establishment. Also think about fishtail prongs, a talented jeweler will be able to make them and they are to die for! Dont let your ring distract you of enjoying the rest of your wedding plannig… The ring is only as good as the years behind it

Sorry to revive this old thread but did you ever get your ring finished? Post an updated picture?
hi 🙂 yes I did get it finished. it still isn’t exactly how it should be but I ended up getting so frusterated and annoyed with the jewler that I just took it as it was the last time they “fixed” it. it’s just a simple setting and I had every intention of going back to them for when I wanted to do an update, but after the enormous headache I went through with them the first time, I really have no desire to go back to them, for anything. they actually asked me at one point if I ever thought about getting a job in quality control lol sorry but I just figured they would have someone double checking their work before it went out into the world with their name on it or at least douncle check their own work and decide if that was acceptable for them tnemsleves to wear and then decide if it was done correctly or not. I literally had a list of problems that I showed them before the last “fix” and they didn’t have an argument so they must’ve seen all the issues that I was pointing out because every other time they would put up at least a little fight trying to convince me that it was done correctly and that it was just my stone that was making the prongs crooked/uneven/off balance. I finally asked why they weren’t fitting the prongs to my stone instead of shoving the stone in to fit the prongs. people would ask me to see my ring and I would immediately cover it up and then explain the story to them about why it looked the way that it did and then show it to them. every person eould immediately notice the issues after I would point them out. they could see it but the jewlery couldn’t? its really sad and disappointing to see the amount of effort that some pepole put into their work. especially somethimg so special as someone’s wedding ring!
anyway, sorry for the rant!
the first picture on the left that says ‘old setting’ is the very first time I picked up my ring and you can clearly see the prongs are all off and not all the same shape or lengths. the picture on the right that says ‘new setting’ is the second time and they used a bigger setting which is why the shape of the stone looks completely different and you can see the metal from the setting showing around the sides.
this is the third time I picked it up and had them go back to the smaller setting because that was never the problem anyway. it was the fact that they weren’t placing the prongs in the correct spots and they weren’t the same shape or legnth. lol which obviously happened again!
these last two is, for now, the final product. it was so exhausting I just gave up because there were so many more important things going on with the wedding planning. I absolutely love my stone and how much a cushion look it has and all of the deep facets. like most girls, of course I wish my stone was just a little bigger but my ring size is only 4.5 so I don’t feel like it looks small on me at all. I’m “okay” with my setting I just wish it was a little different, I really would like to get the brian gavin ‘grace’ setting and then i will be happy and i know I have nothing to worry about with them messing up the setting or the prongs!
anyway, sorry my response was so long! hope I helped! do you have a ring?

I completely forgot to post a picture of the finished setting! have you done anything different to yours? do you have any new pics? I still think about your gold band all the time and I might just end up switching some day! 🙂
I just wanted to show you this one to show you how “cushion-like” it really is and so you could see all the facets. this is one of the times I had gotten it back and the prongs weren’t the same shape or length.
these two are the best pictures that I have that show how the setting is now. the prongs really still aren’t perfect and the stone could be turned slightly to the left but those are minor things and certainly not anything that anyone who asks to see my ring have noticed. maybe for our anniversary I’ll get the setting I really want from brian gavin since its really not that expensive, I believe it’s under $2,000 so hopefully someday 🙂 I heard blue nile has good prices as well so that’s always something I could check out as well. did you say that’s where you got yours from?

sorry, I didn’t see your post until now, my email notifications somehow got turned off so I meber got notified that you wrote anything. sorry about that! anyway, your ring is beautiful! what size is your stone? if you get more of an open basket setting, more light will come in and it will be able to sparkle more to its full potential. have you been able to see an elongated cushion in person yet? they really are beautiful, and you don’t see them too much and I think that’s something that attracted me to it. it’s a solitaire and I think I’ll still love it in ten 10 years rather than if I had gotten a halo. solitaires are just so beautiful and timeless.
this first pic is just to show you how cushion-like my stone is and also to show you all the facets. this is one of the times i got my ring back and the prongs werent the same size or length and the stone was lopsided lol so I can definitely relate to you when you talk about threatening thr jewler haha
these last two are how my setting currently is now. you can see the elongated shape good in these ones. there are a lot of different dimensions you could get, but I really like the shape of mine, i just wish it was a little bigger maybe like 1.50 and because of the shape it would probably look a little bigger than it really is then I would still be able to get a good quality without it being a ridiculous amount of money. diamonds are definitely way over priced in some stores so next if I ever decide to upgrade I’ll definitely be shopping around first before pointing my husband in the right direction. anyway, hope this helped incase you havent been able to get to see one in person yet 🙂

i’m still looking for mine at the moment! But i love elongated cushions! To me they also look bigger than square ones of equial carat size, which is really nice since they usually face up smaller than a round.
That’s such a bummer you’ve had such a hard time with your jewler! I would be furious, and tell them they can give me the setting for free or just return the crappy setting and get it set at Brian Gavin. Good luck with all that and try not to kill you jewler although I don’t think anyone would blame you 🙂
