Hiii!!! I’m actually having my wedding at the Roxbury Barn in July of 2014.  We are also doing a kind of destination wedding (we are from Long Island).  To me, the roughly $8,000 price tag is well worth it (our total budget is $30k if that gives you a better idea).. This place is magical, scenic, peaceful, everything I was looking for and MORE.  When I first visited the grounds, we had already looked at about 6 or 7 other barn locations in upstate NY (Historic barns of Nipmoose, The Barn on the Pond, Olde Tater Barn, the Appel Inn, Pruyn house.. just off the top of my head).   The Roxbury Barn blew those other venues away, the proprietor Casper’s attention to detail is off the charts.  They do a few projects every year to add to the property and keep everything well maintained.  Keep in mind that a lot of barn locations require a lot of rentals– bathroom, lighting, sound equipment (if you aren’t having a DJ who provides one), even generators because the barn does not have power.  The Roxbury has that all taken care of… The barn is fully powered, bathrooms within the barn, gorgeous strung lights throughout the 2 story barn as well as outside the barn strung between trees, sound equipment to play an ipod through, also a sound system if you want to have your ceremony up in the woods of the property.  That alone saves you a few thousand.  And I can’t forget the amazing bonfire they build (this itself almost sold me on the location).  Honestly I knew the moment I met the owner and got a brief glimpse of the barn that we had to get married here.  The owners are not just doing this for the money, they truly love what they do and want you to have an amazing wedding and it shows. They are so friendly and informative about every piece of the process, and they have great advice about vendors, table layouts etc.  To me, all of that was priceless!!  We ever found an amazing caterer nearby who specializes in BBQ, and we are having a really extensive spread of food for $55 per person. AND there’s an amazing hotel right down the block for guests to stay at, The Roxbury motel (theroxburymotel.com) as well as a few other more affordable motels within 15-20 minutes of the barn for guests. If the price tag is still too expensive for your friend, I would have her consider the Pruyn house near Albany (I believe the rental is $2,500) which is more of a historic site that the town rents out, or the Barn on the Pond (but only if her wedding is around 50-70 people) which is a private residence that rents out for events.  Please feel free to message me if you have any other questions.. and if she does end up getting married at the Roxbury tell her to get in touch with me, I’ve been doing a ton of research and get help out in any way 🙂

Also– Not sure when your friend is looking to get married but the Roxbury is pretty booked up through the summer of 2014 so I would tell her to go visit asap if she’s still interested.  We originally wanted June 14th but had to settle on July 19 because it was the only May-June-July date open.

I would recommend Full Moon Resort http://www.fullmoonresort.com/. It’s perfect for destination wedddings, the rooms are all on the property. Also, they charge by the person – so no site fee. Oh – and it’s about 30 minutes from Roxbury. The food is delish and the people are great.

Hi Kriss – my fiancé and I looked at The Roxbury Barm this evening for our wedding and absolutely loved the property and restored barn- what a magical place!

We really want to comit to booking it for June 2015, but were slightly concerned with the amount of space inside the barn where we’d plan on having the dinner and reception. Casper says it fits 150 comfortably – and we only plan on inviting 130 guests – but it seems like it’d be a tight fit for even 75-100 people. Would you mind sharing the number of guests that attended your July 2014 wedding?  If it was over 100 did the barn feel at all cramped?

Any other suggestions or advice you have about the Roxbury Barn from your wedding experience would be a huge help!

Thanks!

Hi, we are also interested in the Roxbury Barn for August 2016 (I know, a really long time away, but we live on the west coast so planning has been difficult…). I was wondering if you knew the names of the other motels in the area where guests could stay. I am not sure about having guests be so scattered, and not having enough nicer accomodations for our older guests.

Catskill Barn Weddings at The Natural Gardens is a kind of eden tucked into the Northeast, Catskill Barn Weddings at The Natural Gardens provides couples with a natural getaway that is ideal for a whimsical wilderness barn wedding. Everything about this location gently whispers peace and serenity. Envision walking through a lush green field as your wedding aisle and saying your vows at the glittering pond-side beneath an archway of tree branches, with the ambient music of tweeting birds and fish leaping from the water creating the soundtrack for one of the most important moments of your life. A nearby stone waterfall and flourishing flowers adds character to this already uniquely beautiful outdoor space!

My fiancee and i are possibly looking to book the Roxbury barn. Does anyone have experience with local lodging/shuttles for guests? We live on Long island and pretty much the whole wedding party will be coming from downstate. Any advice, warnings, reccomendations etc would be greatly appreciated. This is the only thig holding us back from pulling the trigger on a deposit.

Thank you,
