I’m not in IL anymore but I grew up in northern IL. People are amazed when they find out that in fact no, Chicago does not cover all of northern IL.

Don’t hate me, but I currently live in Chicago… but I’m dying to move back to the suburbs near where I’m from originally!

Also, Darling Husband went to school in the Durty D and I’ve been there many times!

ETA: My wedding was in Naperville and NOT Chicago.

I live in Palatine. Used to live in Chicago and our wedding will be there. I work downtown, so the Metra is my friend. But I grew up even farther out in the NW burbs, so I’m a suburbs girl at heart!

@BrookieCookie9:  to me – downtown is Chicago – other than that you don’t live or aren’t from Chicago and if you live in Chicago but now downtown then you need to move to the burbs πŸ™‚ that’s just my crappy opinion of what is not Chicago.

@inexplicablecomfort:  I work downtown as well – the Metra is my friend too – when it’s on time that is…

@Bwed2012:  I actually don’t mind it. It sure beats driving and I’ve started reading so much more now that I take the train. But you’re right about the on time thing… sometimes it gets really bad, especially leaving downtown in the winter. It can get so backed up!

I feel like it’s the rest of Illinois that considers everything north of I-80 Chicago!  While I lived in the city for quite some time, I was born and raised in the suburbs.  I’m marrying someone from central Illinois, and to them, the idea that I’m not from Chicago is unfathomable.  I also went to college in central Illinois

EVERYTHING is Chicago.  I think it’s all just a matter of perspective.  There’s a big difference between Chicago and Chicago-land.

Then again to me, everything beyond the suburbs and city is a small town, so what do I know?  πŸ™‚

@inexplicablecomfort:  agreed – and not having to pay for parking too πŸ™‚ Looks like we’re possibly on the same Metra line – I usually get on/off at either Cumberland of Mt Prospect stops depending on what train I take…. Palatine is a few stops after πŸ™‚

@Bwed2012:  We are on the same Metra train! I go straight from Palatine to downtown and vice-versa but I usually take an express train that goes straight through and misses Mt. Prospect. If I get on an express train, especially coming home, I’m sooo happy because it’s only 35-40 mins! How long is it from Mt. Prospect? We looked a bit there when we were moving out of the city.

@inexplicablecomfort:  Just about the same 35-40min – I usually take the 7:31am from Cumberland – gets me to Oglivie just around 8am… if I take the Mt Prospect train in the AM I take the 7:22am.

Going home I speed walk to catch the 5:06 πŸ˜€

@Bwed2012:  That’s how I feel about my evening train. I try to convince myself that I’m getting my workout for the day by power walking! πŸ™‚
