@miss.wiggums:  If you can wiggle your toe and move your feet like before then your fine not having to go to ER.

as for the toenail how far up has it come off. did it break off at the top? Is it bleeding loads?? If the beeding has slowed down…its fine to leave. keep off it and keep it elevated for the next 24hrs.

Just make sure you disinfect it, apply a clean pressure bandage everyday for about 5 days. Wear shoes that allow your feet to breath. Disinfect it and change your bandage daily. Buy non adhesive bandages, the wrong bandages can keep reopening the healed skin when you take it off. you can buy these at any chemist, pharmacy etc.

After the 5 days, do a hot salt water bath for your foot for the next 10days. Add  large amount of cooking salt to boiling hot water in a tub….add some cold water to cool it down. make sure its cool enough and keep dipping your toe in and out of the water for 10 minutes. Doing the hot salt water bath is an old fashioned but great way of preventing infection.

As for your nail it may take a while for it to grow back….it may sometimes grow back a little weird or not grow back at all in severe cases….but I’m sure that wont happen!!!Laughing

Also keep an eye on it in the next few days….if it keeps bleeding, looks red or ends up with yellow pus go straight to your doctor.

OWWWWWW! I think you’ve gotten some great advice. PP must be a nurse.

Only thing I was thinking is that there could be a piece of nail left under skin which could get infected. Maybe see fam dr on Monday.

I have nothing to add, other than I hope your poor toe feels better soon!

Ohhhhh, does that ever hurt.  I’m not a medical bee, but I lost a toenal once and remember it well.

A little good news.  Once you have some new regrowth, the nail salon can actually build you an acrylic toenail.  It covers up the nail bed, so it hurts a lot less and it looks a lot better.

Of course, make sure your doctor says it’s ok.

@miss.wiggums:  ouch.  i know exactly what you are going through.  this happened to me 10 days before my wedding.  the nail lifted up and was hanging there.  i didn’t want to rip it off.  it did come off itself eventually and a new one is growing.  my dh thinks my toe was broken but i didn’t go to the dr.  i just taped it up everyday.  i did exactly what @cmsgirl  describes.  my mom was the one who suggested the salt bath.  it really works.  it pulled out all of the pus.  sorry, it sounds gross but it felt so much better when i did it.  the toe nail part healed up right away but the toe joint itself hurt for about 3 months.

Ouch.  I did something like that long ago.  I hope it heals well -and soon!
