@cacamillis:  Those big lists are great, but there is a lot of stuff that you don’t really need, they are just nice to have. I have 2 kids and have never have a bottle sterilizer or drying rack or a wipe warmer.  for my kids obviously the car seat and crib are the biggest things you need. I did have a changing table too. A few sets of clothes in different sizes. Bottles and nipples (even if you plan to breastfeed you might want some on hand just in case you need to supplement). You’ll want some blankets to swaddle in. The rest of the items you can get as you need them.

@ieatunicorns:  I agree

With DS I got all of the “needed” stuff and the wipe warmer just kept drying out the wipes so annoying.

This is what my list is going to be with baby #2

Breast Pump

Breast feeding accesories (pads, creams, etc.)

2 Breast feeding friendly bottles

Breast feeding pillow

Diapers

Wipes

Onsies

Sleepers

Baby bath tub

Baby wash clothes/towels

Burp clothes

Bibs

Baby Swing

Bassinet

Car seat

Stroller

Baby Socks

Blankets

Pacifiers if you’re not breast feeding.

I used Lucie’s List as my main guidelines for what to buy: http://www.lucieslist.com/

She has great suggestions for brand names as well as what is essential and what isn’t.  Also, if you’re trying to save $$, you can find a lot of great used stuff on craigslist.  I’ve gone that route especially for the more expensive items that we only expect to use for a short period of time.
