Hey gals- I have a question~
I’m getting a BEAUTIFUL ballgown for my wedding but I was NOT planning on renting a limo etc. We’re having our ceremony AND reception in the same place which is 5 minutes from our house!
Can I get by in my huge ballgown sliding into the backseat of an SUV? I don’t HAVE to rent a limo do I? I would like to drive to different areas in my city to take some pictures with my fiance and my girls and the groomsman! There are 5 girls and 5 guys and there will be a car to transport me and two cars for the boys and girls (I’m hoping one girl can ride with me). There is no need for people to rent cars as there will be more than enough cars to go around and the photographer will have his own vehicle 🙂
Any girls fit their beautiful ballgown (with them in it of course) in the back of an SUV? Just wanted to be prepared for any snags on wedding day 😀

I am posting so I can keep track of this. I am in the EXACT same situation and Fiance thinks there is a solution other than hiring a limo…(I don’t think there is).

My dress was originally an a-line but i added hoops to make it a ballgown. I was able to sit in the front seat of DH’s car by removing the hoops, it just took a little squishing of the skirt. If you watch My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding they fit ridiculously huge ballgowns into SUVs all the time, so obviously there is a way!

I got dressed when I got there, and I changed into a lighter dress (My dress was HEAVY) shortly into the reception.

AHAHA I NEED TO WATCH THIS SHOW! I keep seeing it on netflix and skipping over it.
My dress is silk organza- there’s just… 60 YARDS of silk organza. It actually lays flat beautifully as long as you part it in the back- so I’m hoping I can just have a back seat all to myself hahahaha

@limekitty: We used a towncar instead of a limo, and my massive ballgown fit in just fine!

I was in an organization that wore ballgowns to bimonthly meetings… You should definitely be able to fit in an SUV, but you need to think of the logistics of your gown, for example, if it has beautiful details in the back of your dress, you want to avoid creases before the ceremony. You also want to think about how hard it is to get in the vehicle with regular clothing or dressy clothing. I mention this having rented an SUV on vacation that had a backseat that was nearly ten inches higher than the front seats and had no foot rail. I am a tall woman, so saying it was a struggle to climb in should speak volumes. The rental had normal height front seats, so I mention this because it wasn’t something that you might think of especially if it is a vehicle you are normally only sitting up front in, or only occasionally hop in the back for. In a ballgown, climbing up will be a bigger challenge. If you can find a nice car to ride in it might be a better choice. Look for one with a roomy backseat.

It should be doable. I was in a fluffy a line dress in the back of a Bentley. A ball gown in a suv should be ok. Just be careful of wrinkles in the dress and your head! Getting into a car with a big dress and trying not to mess up your hair in the door frame takes some work.

OH GOOD THOUGHTS!
My dress doesn’t have lace detailing or anything like that. It’s just beautiful silk organza with waterfalls in silk organza down the front 😀
I’m hoping a 10-15 minute car ride doesn’t kill it!
