When you clean OUT the clutter you will find you do a lot less cleaning UP. If, for example, for clean out your medicine cupboard so it looks like this:

aaaand less like this:

If there is hardly any extra stuff laying around that you don’t need you will be less likley to throw things on top and make the mess worse. By all means keep a stock pile of deodorant and lady hygine supplies but you don’t need to keep half done razors or 6 toothbrush covers if there are only two of you.

Clear out a cupboard at a time and only put back what you plan on keeping.

Try on your old clothes and use the reverse hanger method if you aren’t sure. (Turn them all backwards and when you put the washing away face them the usual way, at the end of 6 weeks etc go through what wasn’t about-faced and try to clear 10-15% of what you don’t use. Swap it with a same-size friend or relative or make a donation to your local charity)

When you clean out your rooms, one by one, put it all straight in a garbage bag and don’t look in ANY of them again. Get rid of things that aren’t used on a weekly basis, things that are damaged or faulty, and things were given as a gift that you haven’t used. Give what you can to charity or put it aside to give as a gift to someone else.

If there is stuff that you DO use but not on a weekly basis, get yourself some storage containers and get it out of living areas. Store it in your basement, garage, attic etc so that it doesn’t become a clutter item instead of a useful item.

Keep all your cleaners in a bag or basket and take them from room to room with you, you will have everything you need and not get distracted when you go out to get something you forgot.

Work your cleaning around your living. Keep a small basket near your bathroom for dirty clothes and when you walk out eg. to the kitchen take a arm full of clothes with you.

Keep a couple of small trays/baskets near the living areas or where you come in the house and empty your pockets into it when you get home. Mine is big enough for my small handbag and it stops any receipts, lose change etc from making it to the dining table or kitchen bench.
