I am not a step-parent, but I used to call my step-mom by her first name. When referring to her I’d say “my step-mom”.

I’m also not a step parent, but I do have a step mother. I have always called her by her first name. If I’m talking about her to people who know her, I use her first name. If I’m talking about her to people who don’t know her or don’t know her well, I call her my step mum. If I’m talking about her to DH or his family, I call her “my [first name]” as DH has a sister with the same name lol (this is how we differentiate which one we’re talking about).

I think of her as a mother figure, but I would never call her mum – I have a mum whose life I still very much an active part of, and my step mum came into my life when I was 15 so she didn’t really have much to do with raising me.

I’m also not a step-parent, but have a stepdad and two stepmoms. From the time I was about 3 up until now, I’ve called everyone by their first names. When introducing them to others, it was simply, “this is my stepdad, John” and “this is my step mom, Mallory.”

I call my step-parents by their first names. I reference both sets of parents as ‘my parents’ in conversation. People are often confused and ask me which set of parents. haha

My stepson also calls me by my first name.  Like you, I had hoped we could come up with a little nick name or something since I’ve been involved in his life since very early on, but it sort of happened organically on his own.  Since he was so little, he initially called me mommy a few times in the beginning, and then one day he just started calling me by my first name and it’s been that way ever since.  I don’t mind at all….he has a great mom and she deserves that title!  The only issue now is that sometimes my biological son wants to call me by my first name too … and that’s where I draw the line!
