So, since I was younger, I’ve always LOVED the look of cameo necklaces. I have been toying with the idea of wearing one on my wedding day.
I realize they are from the Victorian era (and I’m NOT planning on having a Victorian themed wedding). My wedding is going to have a rustic/antique theme to it, but not sure if a cameo is too specific or if it’s okay to kind of mix and match.
I’m posting a picture of the cameo with the dress that is my number one at the moment. I sort of want to purchase the necklace before going to try the dress on again. Just looking for opinions.
Also, I know the cameo is cheap and not a real “jewelry piece” as it is bronze and not gold/silver/etc. It doesn’t concern me much but do you think it will come off tacky to my guests? It’s exactly what I want especially the locket piece as I’d like to put pictures of my deceased grandfather in there so he can be there for my wedding, in a sense.
What do you think, bees? Am I playing with fire with the costume jewelry that doesn’t quite date with my theme?

I LOVE it! I love the look of cameos, I have a cameo brooch I inherited from my grandma that I sometimes wear with a pearl necklace. I love the necklace but a brooch could be more subtle if you’re concerned about it being too much. However, I think it’s great as it is.

If you’re concerned how about putting it in your bouquet handle, that way you can still have the photo with you and if you decide later on that you do actually want to wear it you’ll have it with you?

I LOVE cameos. They’re so elegant and fit with an atnique theme. I say do it! I plan on wearing one for mine. It’s so much more unique than typical blingy bridal jewelry.

My sister wore a cameo at her wedding and it was beautiful.

I think it would look beautiful! And shame on any of your guests who would look down their nose at you for wearing something that means a lot to YOU. It’s no one else’s biz.

Do what makes you happy, it doesn’t matter if you’re “supposed” to mix and match or not. I’m wearing a necklace from 1890, and our wedding isn’t going to be Victorian themed, either. Your day, your call!

I wore a vintage pearl choker with a cameo. It was a five strand neclace and the cameo was of a pinkish hue. My dress was mauve and it went really well together.
I have a small collection of about 12 different cameos. Each one is individual and a work of art. I’ve heard that cameo carving is becoming a lost art.
eta: You could get the necklace and replace the bronze chain with a velvet cord and depending on your colors you may be able to coordinate with your bridesmaids or boquet.

I love Cameos and I think with the classic look of the lace dress it will look perfect. Time period doesn’t matter.
