I thought this was going to be a serious question.

Sigh.

Depending on what the is seen in the ultrasound (because of the baby’s position), yes, it can be wrong. It’s not common but it’s more common than to be told that you’re having a boy and the baby turns out to be a girl.

At 19 weeks…probably not wrong. However, the technician saying “it could be” doesn’t sound too reassuring. I’d ask for another ultrasound.

You’re so worried? Why…?

Agree with PP. Why are you worried? Having a healthy baby is the most important thing.

Sanaritsa2016:  Well you have a 50/50 chance of eithe or.  I for sure thought was having a girl but ended up having a boy at our scan showed a boy.  I can’t imagine life without my son.  The point is no matter what you are having you will love that baby like you can not imagine.

Did you not have a blood test and a follow up confirmation at 15 weeks? Maybe they don’t do that anywhere… If you are worried or want to know for whatever reason you could ask them to redo it or get an elective ultrasound done elsewhere.

I’d probably believe the ultrasound over a “feeling.”

lovechocolate:  they wont redo a diagnostic ultrasound just to confirm gender. If all anatomy was seen then that’s it. Elective ultrasound where you pay is most likely the route she has to go. Unless she needs follow up ultrasounds for whatever reason then they can double check.

zoey0317:  That’s odd. My OB will give you an u/s if you ask. Elective u/s aren’t expensive at all. There are quite a few follow-up u/s coming up for her. At least at my OB they do one almost every visit.

lovechocolate:  it varies from office to office. I only get two ultrasounds done by medical personnel. One for dating, one for my anatomy scan. I did have an elective ultrasound just to confirm the sex, hear the heartbeat longer, and get 4D images and video. I have an friend who only got one ultrasound; her anatomy scan. Just depends on your office and what’s needed for each pregnancy

lovechocolate:  It depends on the situation. People with high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, etc. have biophysicals which are done once a week after 34 ish weeks, sometimes twice a week. If there is nothing wrong with the baby at the anatomy scan, most people don’t have another one after 20 weeks. A doctor shouldn’t just order an ultrasound if you ask. Some do, yes. But usually not to see the gender. An ultrasound is a medical exam, and while there isn’t radiation, it is still advised to use it as little as possible, and only when the benefits of it outweigh the risk.

You might be right and her doc might order another one just  because she asks. But they’re not supposed to and most docs wont so I was preparing her for knowing that.
