This is a matter of personal taste and opinion. I like quite large stones, but they can definitely get to the point where I think they look silly.

It depends on the setting and the size of the hand and finger it’s going on.

Some diamonds can be too big for a person. It overwhelms the finger/hand and looks unbalanced, unwieldy, possibly fake, and sometimes just plain old ridiculous.

All of that is usually just opinion, though. People have different preferences, that’s all.

This is probably a matter of personal opinion but I love big diamonds! I remember ring shopping with my husband and when I tried my ring on he was like “are you sure that’s not too big” I was like are you for real😂 No such thing! I love my 1.74 carat diamond but shrinkage is real folks!

sscott06 :  Depends on one’s personal preference. My answer would be yes, because overly big diamonds look fake and overly flashy. But I admit I’m 1000% biased and hypocritical because if we were talking about a dreamy blue Ceylon sapphire, I would tell you no size would ever be too big for me! Even if it were 10 carats!! And my fingers are a size 4.5. Lol

P.S. I’ve seen your set and it’s beautiful. xoxo

I definitely think a diamond can be too big.  Sometimes depending on the carat, setting or ring size it can just look overwhelming and stupid. It’s all personal preference.

sscott06 :  I agree with PPs that it’s all personal preference. I don’t judge people for what’s on their hands, it’s their business. The pic posted looks way too big for me and I can’t imagine functioning with something so big flopping around and hitting the other fingers, but I’m sure some people would love to wear something that size. To each his own. My sweet spot as I get older is 2 to 2 1/2 carat and I used to think 1 carat was just right! Lol shrinkage sets in and eventually tastes change!

There’s a big difference between what I like to look at (and drool over and appreciate for the fact that it exists in the world) and what I like to wear. My preference for what I wear on my own hand has a definite max. I don’t like to wear large stone jewelry daily because it twists and gets in my way and I usually end up taking it off and putting it on my desk or losing it. I wanted something I could comfortably wear daily and that’s what I’ve got.

I love looking at massive, ridiculous wedding sets on other people, though. I found it excessive, but I loved Mariah’s emerald cut engagement ring (Even though it was larger, it was a much more elegant ring than the one from her marriage to Nick Cannon). And though I think it’s magnificently gaudy, I really like Wendy Williams’ wedding set. That’s the one that made me start having an appreciation for rings that look like walls of sparkle on the finger.

sscott06 :  Nope. My finger is a size is 7.5 so I can handle a larger size diamond (one day) where as for the smaller finger Bees, I would imagine, there is more of a size limitation for the appearance to be complimentary.

I loooove big stones and diamonds; however, I don’t think they are too big unless you’re talking about “celebrity big”. Beyonce’s 18 carat emerald cut diamond ring comes to mind as well as several of Victoria Beckham’s wedding rings. They just start looking like blobs at that point to me and often the stone is so heavy, that it keeps falling to the side. Diamonds also start losing sparkle the bigger they are and the sparkle is the main appeal of a diamond IMO.

I honestly laugh & don’t understand when bees on here say the two and three carat diamonds are too big bc I’m used to wearing stones much bigger. A 12mm stone or 7 carat diamond is probably as big as I’m willing to wear…but the 2 and 3 carats are a nice start in my book lol.

I am firmly of the view that diamonds cannot be too big xo
