I’ve heard of urine tests giving false negatives, but personally haven’t heard of one with a quantitative blood test.  I’m really sorry that this is all so confusing, and obviously not the result you wanted, but there are a lot of reasons why your period might be absent.  You might chat with your OBGYN about it.  Did you chart or use opks to have an idea if you ovulated, or ovulated yet?  It might be a case of delayed O.

I haven’t heard of one being wrong before. Have you had any bleeding at all (like spotting)? Has your period ever been late before? What did the nurse or doctor say when they told you the results?

I’m no expert, but I would say only because of human error.

Are you sure you ovulated? My sympathy goes out to you. It sucks not knowing what is happening in your own body!!

Hello there!

Firstly I’m sorry you did not get the result you want, and even more sorry that the situation you are in is so confusing.

Secondly, I work in a laboratory and do these tests every day! its very unlikely that your test is incorrect if it is a blood HCG level. Sometimes women do not express HCG in their urine, or there are too early to have HCG detected in their urine and have to have a blood pregnancy test. In my experience have never heard of a pregnant woman not expressing HCG in their serum. The only way this result would be wrong would be a malfunction with the analyser or human error.

If you are still concerned I recommend returning to your doctor and asking for a repeat test. I would also make sure he does some other tests as well to rule out any other reason why your period is so late, especially if you have always been very regular.
