Okay, it would seem my roommate and I have total opposite taste – I’m most likely getting married in a tundra-y winter, which leads ME to the assumption that I should dress appropriately. I was thinking a simple (ie no beads, lace, etc) aline dress with a crinoline and then a sweater something like this:
My roommate, on the other hand, claims that no bride should ever wear a sweater, because it’s too informal.
What do you think? Can a sweater still be bridal? (If not, how the heck am I supposed to not freeze to death?)

I think the sweater is cute! For a casual wedding I’d certainly think about it – we don’t get the tundra like weather over here so it’s harder for me to imagine!
However, I have seen winter brides in gorgeous faux fur stoles and wraps and even a faux fur lined cloak that look amazing as well. Maybe some research is warranted?
Ultimately, it’s your day and you can wear whatever you want so long as you’re comfortable 🙂

I nearly went down the sweater route. I wanted to knit myself Elfin Bride by DomiKnitrix http://domiknitrix.com/prj/elfingoth.cfm and wear it over a corset and a flowing skirt. In the end I decided against it (for one thing, I didn’t think I’d be able to find enough secret knitting time!) but I still love the idea.

That sweater is super cute!!! I think it woud totally be okay to wear a sweater, it would be way cute and WAY cozy!!! That sweater you posted would be perfect. You could also go the super glam route and do a fur shrug (real or fake, doesn’t matter). I saw a wedding where she did that and it was GORGEOUS!

I got a off-white sweater to wear when I get cold. I’m only planning on wearing it when I’m waiting, in the limo, or at the reception after the cake/cutting/first dance.
I ended up getting a long sweater from victoria secret

I love the look of a sweater, especially for a cozy winter wedding! I put on an ivory cashmere cardigan at my reception, and thought it looked very cute. I’m actually selling a heavier Vera Wang sweater shrug I bought but didn’t end up wearing since it was a little *too* heavy for my fall wedding, if you’re interested. Here’s a photo:

Fur seems to be the default for winter brides, but I’m kind of just a tiny bit anti-fur. :/
@KMS – you’re funny, I didn’t think you were spazzy, just excited 🙂
@tulipcarnation – that sweater looks super comfy, and I bet it would look great with a slimmer fitting dress 🙂

I think that wearing a sweater can be an adorable look! (Definitely much better than a shivering bride.)
However, in my opinion, a cable-knit sweater does look kind of casual. What about something like this: http://www1.talbots.com/online/browse/product_details.jsp?id=prdi23489&rootCategory=cat70008&catId=cat590041&sortKey=Default§ion=Regular&conceptIdUnderSale=cat70008′ defer=’defer

I’m going to wear a sweater, too. Our wedding is in March and my dress is sleeveless.
I’ve had my eye on this for a while:

Are you going to wear the sweater the whole time? I would probably be like Phoebe from Friends where I would have my dress out for the walk and then put something on after the ceremony. Granted she was turning blue by the end!

It depends on the level of formality, I think. If you’re having a white-tie or black-tie wedding, I think a sweater is a little informal, but otherwise I see no reason against wearing a beautiful sweater with your dress. And yes’m, I like that Vera Wang!

I saw a few pics of brides doing this on SMP and I thought it was gorgeous! If I had a winter wedding, I totally would have rocked a sweater!

Wear a sweater! It could be *gorgeous.* I say, wear the sweater and incorporate it into your bridal look. Otherwise, you’ll get cold, someone will lend you a jacket, and before you know it, half your photos will be of you wearing someone’s floppy black dinner jacket over your dress!
That sweater with the brooch is beautiful!
