I think the only problem with the dress might be the sweetheart neckline since at 10 she’s probably… undeveloped? and with taking the dress in it might fit a little strange.  A good seamstress should be able to fix the neckline with no problem.  I say talk to a seamstress and see if they feel they can make the alterations.

It would cost a lot to have it altered and realistically, dresses can only be altered a couple sizes up or down before they lose their strictural integrity. I would sadly have to say, no. Not that dress.

LOL. Did you check the measurements in the delia’s sizing guide and measure her?  Looks like the small end for XS is 30x22x32.

I know Delia’s is geared toward teens and pre-teens  Its not like you are ordering from mrs. adult sizes, these sizes will be smaller.

But I agree with pp, the neckline might be an issue.  This has straps so that would help.

Since Delia’s sells Junior sized clothing, it just may fit her. It has both straps and a tie waist, so other than it may be a little long, she can probably wear it. Make sure its returnable, tho ,just in case.

Exactly….if its HUGE on her, sometimes alterations and the expense would make it just not worth keeping and attempting to alter. She may even hate it once she tries it on. I just meant to make sure you can return it if she decides she doesn’t like it as much after seeing it.

@Dr. Dolemite:Delia’s runs *very* small.

I could fit in their XS when I was 4’6 and 60ish pounds… have her try it on.

You may want to get her a black tank to wear underneath in case it is too low cut, but I think it can be altered (based on my personal experience with Delia’s brand).

@Dr. Dolemite: You should check in with a seamstress about this!

@Dr. Dolemite:

I think you could take to a seamstress but I would guess alterations would cost as more than the dress?  Plus you said the wedding is in a few weeks so that doesn’t leave much time.

I bet you could take her to the mall or a trendy store she likes and she could pick out a very cute dress that she would be just as in love with and save the hassle.  Does it have to be certain colors?

Take pictures of the dress to a local seamstress and have it recreated. Having an adult dress altered to her size will make it lose the look she’s going for.
