@vrogers19:  You can but in order to cut new facets the new stone is going to be much smaller.  Also, when stones are initially cut they are generally cut into a shape that flatters the specific stone being cut.  Different cuts are used based on the color and clarity of the stone so as to hide inclusions or exhibit the color of the stone best.
